Well, when you said that you lived near East Aurora I thought you lived in Colorado. I live in Southeast Aurora.

What higher level jobs don't require english speaking?

Communication skills are essential, I refuse to believe that a third of spanish speakers are simply lazy. They've got boatloads of work ethic, but can't apply it, because they've no communication skill; no English!

The facts show it, as do common sence, if you don't speak english in the United States, you will fail at life.

They either need to learn english, or be deported. The fact that our country is a lot better of than Mexico is really irrelevant; I don't want to be expected to hold their hand.

But, oberon, you're avoiding the fact I just presented you (something you do a lot, avoid) how can you say they're not a drain, when 1 out of every 3 are on Welfare, taking your tax dollars, and mooching?

I don't mind helping anybody out, unlike some people. As you may have noticed, I'm not a greedy capitalist.

Let me inquire, how can you "notice" something if it hasn't happened yet? And crystal.

Because for me, if you hadn't, it was a forgone conclusion,
And good.

You're so right.

So tempt them into the American lifestyle then punish them for not being educated enough to obtain the "American dream". But whatever you do, don't let them become citizens or educate them.

LightningBoy, what would you have them do? Throw themselves off of cliffs?

This is a serious over-reaction. All they need to do is learn passable "English". It's one of the few things you learn here FOR FREE. And nobody is asking them to "give up their culture" - they can speak any language they want, when they want, as long as they CAN speak English when needed and as needed.

Exactly. I'm one who supports acculturation--adapt to our culture but still keep your own and your own language. But be able to speak English and, preferably, IMO, speak it in public. But at least being able to speak English (and quite well, too) is an OBLIGATION for you to do when you immigrate to this country. We, the American citizens, shouldn't have to adapt the culture and languages of the immigrants.
