Every Saturday before Christmas, when I was a little kid living in NY and NJ, we would go to another family within my dad's side of the family and have something called "Family Day," which was a lot of fun. We did a give exchange, drawing names out of a hat and buying a gift for that person, had dinner, and saw a movie (such as the first Rugrats movie and The Grinch). Now, though, we live in CO, so can't be there. What we do is my Grandma picks names out of a hat for me, my brother, my sister, and my parents. We then buy gifts for the person, after being notified of him/her, and mail them. Today is Family Day, and as tradition we went and saw a movie. This one was The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
Back in 6th grade my teacher read this book to us, as part of her weekly Friday reading in Reading Class, and so I remembered a lot of it.
It was suprisingly quite good. I knew it would be pretty good, but I liked it. I even thought it was a good deal better than the newest Harry Potter movie. It was a good movie, and not just for kids.
Have any of you seen it? Do you plan on seeing it? If you've seen it, what do you think of it?

Sounds like fun. I liked the movie a lot--one heck of a lot better than the Harry Potter movie. Well-acted and well-written, I was very pleased.

I plan on seeing this sometime in the near future. I hate C.S. Lewis as a rule; however, the movie looks to be more engrossing than the book. I had the unfortunate experience of reading this particular book twice...

I dont plan on ever seeing this movie I read the books a long time ago and I didnt like them very much so chances are i wouldnt like the movie either.

Saw this today, I had to say I just liked it "A Little." It was alright, but the storyline was kind of boring. I suppose I knew that was coming, though. Anyway, it's not as if it stuck with you once you left the movie theatre, which is what all movies should do, I'm sure. It definitely wasn't a PG movie, either. It also kind of annoyed me that when they'd stab something, there wouldn't be any blood. If you're going to do it, do it right...

The ending was annoying, too. Everybody was getting up to leave, and then all of sudden there was MORE movie. Sheesh.

The Chronicles of Narnia are among my all-time favorite books. I've read them (and still read them!) so many times, I can practically say the words by heart as I read them. When my nephew was born, the first present I gave him was this set of books!

I took my niece and nephew to see the movie recently, and I liked it alot. I'd been really excited about going, and, for the most part, the movie didn't disappoint me. There were a few things I would've liked to have seen done differently: for example, given the time limits imposed by condensing a book into a movie, I think the writers (or directors or whoever) didn't give the story a balanced feel; it seemed to me that there was more time than necessary spent on some parts, at the expense of passing over other elements of the story that needed more attention and development. And, unfortunately, Aslan - who should have been splendid and magnificent - was a bit of a let-down. He came off as more preachy than powerful.

BUT - overall, I loved seeing "Narnia!" I laughed, cried, and altogether had a great time. An added dimension to the movie not found in the book was the emotional effect that the Blitz, their father being a soldier, and the war in general had on the children, especially Edmund. It was really well done. And the actors who played the four kids were OUTSTANDING! Unbelievably good - very natural. The little girl who played Lucy was fantastic. They did a great job with Mr Tumnus, too.

I'm still hoping that, one day, I'm going to get to Narnia! The real one, I mean, not just a movie ....

During the summer my mum ran this holiday club all about narnia and Jesus. I have had enough of it to last me a lifetime after those two weeks!

I heard on the news that the movie has some religous overtones I don't plan on seeing it. I prefer my movies to be religon free.

Well that's rather wrong, IMO. But okay. Suit yourself. Don't watch Star Wars.
And I would say that it's religious undertones, actually. All I caught was Daughter of Eve and Son of Adam, a belief in Good being better than Evil, and Father Christmas. Not much.

Ooooh...I didn't see that, but now I think I see what you meant. The thing about him dying and then essentially coming back, for whatever reason? Oh, I see that now. Didn't until you pointed that out

But still--it's still the basic idea of Good versus Evil (even that)--and I thought that was supposed to be a universal thing, not just part of Christianity.

Yeah, but then he was like "If the witch had interpreted the old verse correctly" blah blah blah, about an unjust sacrifice leading to resurrection and that the table would break, etc.

::shrugs:: CS Lewis was an athiest who saught to prove that there was no God, and that's how he became so Christian. So meh. If there are Christian under and overtones in the movie, so what?

Anyway, it isn't a bad thing. The movie is based off the book, if these themes are present in the book (which they are), then it shouldn't be a big deal. I knew what was coming when I went to see it, so.

I'm an atheist and i loved the movie. Who cares if it has some similarities with some stories from the bible. If you enjoy it all is well.

You should go see it for yourself before judging it.

One church in Kent was giving away thousands of tickets free to go and see the movie. My mum told me it would be mean for me to take them. She doesn't agree with me exploiting the church.

I wouldn't say that it's exploitation. I would say that it's them giving out free tickets encouraging you to see a movie that is supported by Christians all around, particularly because of the books.

Am almost tempted to read the books again,
