PostWed Dec 14, 2005 9:12 pm    Iranian President Calls Holocaust a 'Myth'

This is something we can all agree on, for sure. This is SICKENING. What an IDIOT.

Iranian President Calls Holocaust a 'Myth'

TEHRAN, Iran Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad escalated his anti-Israeli rhetoric Wednesday, calling the Holocaust a "myth" used by Europeans to create a Jewish state in the heart of the Islamic world.

"Today, they have created a myth in the name of Holocaust and consider it to be above God, religion and the prophets," Ahmadinejad told thousands of people in the southeastern city of Zahedan.

His remarks drew swift condemnation from Israel, Germany and the European Commission. Germany said the remarks would affect upcoming negotiations over Iran's nuclear program.

Ahmadinejad last week questioned whether the Nazi destruction of 6 million European Jews during World War II occurred and said Israel should be moved to Europe. He also provoked an international outcry in October when he called for Israel to be "wiped off the map."

But Wednesday was the first time he publicly denied the Holocaust. Touring southeast Iran, Ahmadinejad said that if Europeans insist the Holocaust happened, then they are responsible and should pay the price.

"If you committed this big crime, then why should the oppressed Palestinian nation pay the price?" Ahmadinejad asked rhetorically.

"This is our proposal: if you committed the crime, then give a part of your own land in Europe, the United States, Canada or Alaska to them so that the Jews can establish their country," he said, developing a theme he raised in Saudi Arabia last week.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier called the remarks "shocking and unacceptable." He said the German government had summoned the Iranian charge d'affaires to make "unmistakably clear" its displeasure.

"I cannot hide the fact that this weighs on bilateral relations and on the chances for the negotiation process, the so-called nuclear dossier," Steinmeier said, referring to European talks with Iran on its nuclear program.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said: "The repeated outrageous remarks of the Iranian president show clearly the mind-set of the ruling clique in Tehran and indicate clearly the extremist policy goals of the regime.

"The combination of fanatical ideology, a warped sense of reality and nuclear weapons is a combination that no one in the international community can accept," Regev added, referring to allegations that Iran is developing nuclear bombs.

In Brussels, Belgium, European Commission spokeswoman Emma Udwin said the president's comments were "completely unacceptable."

"We feel very strongly that Iran is damaging its own interests with these kind of remarks," she said.

Ahmadinejad said the West had harmed Muslims, invaded their countries and plundered their wealth.

"If your civilization consists of aggression, making oppressed people homeless, suffocating the voices of justice and bringing poverty to a majority of the world's people, we say loudly that we hate your hollow civilization," he said.

Ahmadinejad has been unapologetic about taking Iran on a more openly defiant course, insisting on Iran's right to develop its nuclear program which it insists is peaceful and often using rhetoric reminiscent of the 1980s heyday of the Islamic Revolution.

The president's views sharply conflict with those of predecessor Mohammad Khatami, a moderate who used to call for dialogue among civilizations and promoted a low-key understanding with the United States that stopped short of diplomatic relations.

Inside Iran, Ahmadinejad's remarks have been criticized by some of his conservative allies, who fear he is hurting the country's image. Moderate Iranians have called on the ruling Islamic establishment to rein in the president.

But Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the ultimate say, has backed Ahmadinejad's calls for Israel's elimination.

Ahmadinejad criticized the United States for refusing to sell Iran spare parts for its civilian planes as part of its long-standing embargo against the country.

Iran has suffered a series of plane accidents most recently on Dec. 6, when an aging U.S.-made military transport plane crashed into a tall building in Tehran, killing 115 people. Iranian officials have blamed Washington for the crashes, saying they are partly caused by the difficulty in obtaining spare parts.

"No country is authorized to impose spare-part sanctions against another country. Nothing can justify this," Ahmadinejad said Wednesday.

Ahmadinejad said the denial of spare parts was a reason why Iran would not trust Western promises to give it nuclear fuel. The country is currently at loggerheads with the West over its insistence on enriching uranium to fuel its first nuclear reactor, which is due to start generating electricity next year.

The Europeans, with U.S. backing, do not trust Iran to have its own enrichment process since highly enriched uranium can be used for nuclear warheads. Europe has offered to sell enriched uranium for the reactor, but Iran has rejected this.

The United States is pushing to have Iran referred to the U.N. Security Council, where it could face sanctions for violating a nuclear arms control treaty.

Ahmadinejad said that if Iran gave in on the nuclear dispute, there was no guarantee the West might not refuse to sell nuclear fuel in the future.

"I assure you that we won't step back one inch from our nuclear rights," the president told the crowd, drawing chants of "Death to America!"

Iran is due to resume negotiations on the nuclear issue with envoys from Britain, France and Germany starting Dec. 21 in Vienna, Austria.

This is amazing. But, sadly, in some countries, media, textbooks, and the like are so much under the control of the government, that people will believe something even so outrageous and so blatantly disregarding of historical fact, to be the truth.

What a jerk.

A couple weeks ago a Fox News reporter reported, every day for one week, her time IN IRAN. She was actually allowed to spend some time in Iran and met with Iranians and the like. They don't like the Iraq War, most of them, yet, actually, the majority of them DO like the US--particularly the youth. Most of them are smarter than this, I believe. And most of them do, in fact, like the US--which tells you something about their country. And most of them do, in fact, want Democracy. That's why there's a quiet little movement been a-brewin' since the invasion.

I read about this earlier. I think it is foolish to say the Holocaust was a myth. BUT I do find myself in agreement that it was the GERMANS who murdered all those Jews. Not to say Middle Eastern, American, and countless others did not. But to steal Muslim land and give it to the Jews is screwed up...

This guy is definetly an idiot for denying the holocaust, but i agree with him on one count. Why did we drop all the displaced Jews in the middle of a highly contested reigon?

Do a little more research on Israel, will you all?

EDIT: Check this out. It's from my Human Geo teacher--given he's Jewish and admittedly biased on this matter, but this is strictly factual. It's a powerpoint presentation that I suggest you all check out, if it works. It was part of our Political Organization of Space unit. It lays down the history of Israel.
Here.

The jews have been living in Israel since the Roman Empire ruled it. The time of Jesus Christ. Now the holocaust was about the German invading Poland and some neighbooring countries and placing all jews found in Death Camps.

That is the story and the Holocaust survivors went everywhere not just back to Israel. Some went to the U.S. and Canada and some stayed in Europe.

The fact is the Iranian president is totally crazy psycho and he needs to be removed from power.

I know the history of it. Nothing changes the fact that the Iraelis treat the Muslims like crap. Not even your power point.

I'm not debating that Jews have always been there. But the Muslims were in control, not the Jews. The UN just carved land there for them andt hrew them in, forcing the Muslims to accept it.

I won't even get into how the Jews treat the Palistinian Muslims. That is another topic...

Ummm ... what do you mean, exactly? I'm assuming you must be referring strictly to the 20th Century, because Islam is relatively new to the area in question, compared with the Jews and other Semetic peoples.

Actually, as the PowerPoint shows, there was a majority Jewish population and a majority Muslim population, which they divided, making Jerusalem an international city. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way.
And I'm well away that the Israelis are somewhat at fault as well, even though the Palistinians are carrying out horrible terrorist acts against them. My friend converted me from being a full supporter of Israel to liking it a bit better than the Palistinians--but not too much, as most Palistinians are decent people. It doesn't seem like you really know much of the history about it, actually, though, even though the history doesn't, as you say, change the fact that the Israelis treat the Palistinians poorly. But look at what's going on there now. Progress between both groups, now that the evil Arafat--bent solely on the destruction of Israel--is dead.
But it's not simply the Israelis that treated them wrongfully, if you look at the history there. It's also the surrounding Arab states, who refused to accept them to society, but forced them to live in refugee camps there as well. So, let's keep an open mind. I did, and that's why I'm not nearly as pro-Israel as I was before. I don't like how they treat the Palistinians, even though I dislike the terrorism even more. But looking at the history of Israel, however, I do think that Israel and the expansion are justified (I mean, they took land during a war, for instance, and started out solely with the majority Jewish area. Logical.) You don't know as much about the history as you think, Founder Please, do read the PP.

I did read it and it did not conflict with what I said. There is a reason the Muslims (from all the Middle Eastern nations) are angry about this other than anti-semitism. The UN clearly gave them that land. It even states it in the almighty power point. Not to mention, even if it was a mix of Jews and Muslisms, the Arabs rejected the idea. To which the UN ignored and still brought tons of Jews there and helped set the nation. Also, certain nations loaded Isreal up with weapons to ensure the Arabs can't take their lands back. There is a reason 800,000 Arabs left and it wasn't because they were being treated nicely.

Well, how do you expect them to react? "Oh, yes, great! Jews, Jews, one and all, come to Palestine! Welcome, welcome!" No, of course not! There is a long history of conflict in that region, particularly amongst Jews and Muslims even before the creation of the state of Israel.
There were two states created, as you know--one with a Jewish majority--almost all Jewish--and one with a Muslim minority--almost all Mulsim/Arab/Palistinian. So, what's wrong with letting the Jews have their own state, especially after the Holocaust? Nothing. Absolutely nothing, especially since it was originally JEWISH-MAJORITY LAND. It became what is called a nation-state, and justifiably so. It was majority Jewish, with them dominating a good amount of land, so why couldn't they have the land? Because Arab states, who weren't treating them the best from the start anyways, were opposed to it? Well, what do you expect?
If it was a good-size region of mostly Jewish people, why shouldn't they have been allowed to create their own nation-state? Just because the surrounding Arab states were, naturally, opposed to the creation of a Jewish state there doesn't mean that it shouldn't have been created. And the reason why more land was taken was the Arabs' fault. You go to war to attack a country and they retaliate and take control of more land--that's war. You invade a country, they retaliate, they seize more land--expect it.
It was justified that a Jewish state be created where it was, and the original UN plan was a good one; however, because of the reaction of neighboring states, it didn't turn out that way, because they invaded and Israel ended up winning and seizing more land.
Now, how they treated the Arabs after getting their state and still treat them now--even though they are on the verge of becoming their own state--is a whole other story. I don't like how the Palistinians reacted to what they did, but I also don't approve of, or condone, the actions of the Israelis towards the Palistinians after gaining more control of the region. They were wrong to do that, and still remain wrong in doing many of the things they do now, in terms of treatment.
Now, though, it's really about either destroying Israel or trying to make peace. I prefer the latter of the two options.
And OF COURSE, finally, other states would give Israel weapons. They would have all been anialated had they not! So, yeah, I see no problem with that. I do, however, once again, concede to you that the treatment of the Israelis of the new nation of Palestinians was wrong, and they should have been kinder. But in terms of the creation of the state of Israel, and its expansion, I feel that it was justified.
Oh, and keep in mind that Palestine--what it was leading up to the resolution--was a BRITISH COLONY, so it was even MORESO within their rights to create Israel.

Actually, Muslims in Israel are allowed to be citizens, and to vote, but in Muslim countries, Jews are looked upon as second class citizens.
