I am such a perfectionist when it comes to spelling, grammar, and punctuation. You people have no clue! I agree with T's first post; she said that spelling, etc is a representatoin of you. This is a philosophy that I have stuck by for quite a long time. As a writer in a long line of writers, I've always had the "Magic Touch" when it comes to the written (or typed, in this case) word. I just about shoot myself when I see grown men and women making the simplest of errors. I mean, who spells "baby" with two 'i's', a 'y' AND an 's'? Isn't there anything left of Shakespeare's legacy in our language today? I remember a time when the eloquence of one's writing held true value.

*tear*

Of course I'm not saying that I haven't made typos before, but nothing like that "baby" massacre. I feel like shriveling up when I see things like that happen. It's almost like a desecration to me. I don't mean to offend any of you; it's just my opinion.

It's different if you are not a native english-speaker, of course. In which case I extend my sympathies. English is not an easy language to read, write, or speak. It is more figurative than other languages such as French and Spanish, and there are many more rules of thumb to follow.

Well, there's my two-cents!

I just say my eyes are melting,

There is now a commercial on the radio about this, how people judge you by your words. You can say it's not true, or shouldn't be true all you want, but that's how it is.

Good, I found this.
I just wanted to express my annoyance with people who are semi-colon happy. I've heard of comma-happy, but never semi-colon happy
People--particularly on this forum--are consistently putting semicolons in the wrong place. They are to separate independent clauses, not set off a "for instance" or something like that. Stop using them incorrectly! I'm dying here, seeing that always happening!
Anyways, that's my rant of the day

Here's the thing: if your posts consistently include typos, omit all but the most rudimentary punctuation (or ALL punctuation), and demonstrate an overall ignorance of proper spelling, you give the impression of being intellectually inferior. Sorry - it may sound elitist, but it's the truth. It makes it difficult for most thoughtful people to take seriously anything that you say, no matter how profound your ideas may be.

That's the harsh truth, people.

It is harsh, but at the same time, it is the truth. I agree with lex. It really does make one not take you as seriously, and so it is therefore almost a necessity to use proper grammar, particularly in a forum such as WN.

Oh, I understand it and quite frankly people who spell like that I usually assume either don't speak English or their IQ is smaller than their shoe size.

Of course.

People shouldn't make such a big deal over grammar. If a person's post is valid and presents and clear and understandable point, then it shouldn't be a problem. People are here to enjoy themselves, not have to have to worry about their grammar and what people will think of them for it. Of course, good grammar makes every person's life a little easier.

I agree with you IntrepidISMe. But, I know I need to work on my grammar online. I get nervous and always in a hurry truth be told. On paper, I am much better. Online, I need to be more clearer so people will understand me better. I finally came to realize it. Cause I am home schooling my kids. But, I am better with them since I am not online... So they do actually learn lol

A few people in here when frustrated with what a person has written attack their posts as badly written, grammer etc....
Those people need to get a life and realise as long as the point has been made, who cares how it is written.
They could try to find an intelligent and logical comeback post instead of a "I dont know how to write a good comeback, just criticise the persons grammer/spelling instead".

I like apostrophes and how Gladys can't use them.
