Tuvix was an ACCIDENT. There was nothing wrong with what Janeway did there. The only reason the Doctor couldn't do anything was because of his ethical subroutines.

The cargo bay incident with Crewman Lessing, well, Janeway was infuriated and OBSESSED with catching Ransom. She later dealt with what she did. She also apologized to Chakotay for it, too.

Huh. Ethics stopped the doctor from murdering, who'd have thought.

I'm sure Crewman Lessing feels a simply sorry was enough to make up for the actions.

Tuvix was an accident. So and there were two other men trapped. "The needs of the many, outweight the needs of the few." Two lives for one...it's a fair trade.

A simple "Sorry" for the actions of knowingly taking part in murdering innocent life forms?! Please, if that were all it took now days, this place would be full of more murderers. As if there aren't enough, but there would be more. A simple sorry...HA!

As I said, I'm not defending what Janeway did, but she was also obsessed with getting Ransom. But I'm not saying what she did was right.

That bolded point of yours only helped argue my case. All she did was appologize to try and justify her actions in nearly murdering him. How kind.

....Someone tampered with your ethical subroutines if you think it was morally justified to kill Tuvix, . As viewers of the show I know we were all happy to have Tuvok and Neelix back but the cold hard fact is she murdered Tuvix in cold blood. He wanted to live and was doing whatever he could to fit in.

Good points Valathous.

Also you cant argue that Neelix and Tuvok were better than Tuvix combined. Janeway commented on how the food was soo much better. He was very quick and precise with tactical as well.

"You know the phrase the whole is nothing but the sum of its part? Well I think Tuvix is dissproving that."-Chakotay.

Eh...but like I said, Janeway was apologizing to Chakotay how she acted, and how she acted towards him. Not like she was asking HIS forgiveness for what she did to Lessing. So, no it doesn't support your point.

Granted, Tuvix might have been an ok addition to the crew, but he wasn't Tuvok, and he wasn't Neelix. Kes wanted Neelix back. Imagine what T'Pel, Tuvok's wife, would want. Her husband. And what about "Homestead" I think is the name of the episode, when Voyager comes up to the Talaxians in the asteroid field...What if the Talaxian part of Tuvix wanted to go with them? See the dilemma? Two of them is better than one. Tuvix was an accident. Not meant to be.

If you have a child by accident, do you kill it after giving birth?

Oh wow...that's not cool.

No. You don't.

Wow. I don't know what to say. I still say Tuvok and Neelix over Tuvix, but I see your point. I saw your point from the beginning, but...That's not fair!

Coffee, Black.

thats the only thing I can really remember about her. Sad Huh the only thing a person can remember about her is her constant need for something that will rot her teeth.

I think for female captain in ST.... I think it's pretty cool
But "Coffee, black" is also very tempting... That so suits with her.

Don't quite see it as murder, Tuvix was convinced he would be cheating 2 other lives to keep his own. I think Janeway would have had a much more difficult time losing as close a friend as Tuvok and Neelix as well. Although I will admit, it still didn't make things any easier for Janeway.

Yeah, but you have to think about the fact that there were 2 original lives there that she had to make a sacrifice for. You wouldn't say that 2 combined friends of yours were better than the two original individuals would you? And plus, if she let Tuvix live, wouldn't that mean in some small way that she killed Tuvok and Neelix by allowing him to live? That would mean 2 murders in a way.

I understand that Tuvix was his own person combined with 2 personalities and genetic makeup but it was BECAUSE of the transporter accident (or whatever it was that caused it to happen...too many transporter accidents in Star Trek, lol) that Tuvix happened. It wouldn't be fair to both families of the 2 crew members to say, "I'm sorry that I couldn't bring Tuvok or Nelix back because I had to let Tuvix live."

And Tuvix had no past so how can he technically have a future? He would be a lost individual eventually anyway. He would probably be always questioning about who he thought he was, etc.

And it wasn't like it was an easy decision for her to make either. I'm sure it was very hard knowing that she did have to kill him in order to bring Tuvok and Neelix back.

And you can't use the whole, "If you had a child as an accident, would you kill it?" because that can't work. The child would be it's own genetic makeup. Not 2 combined. We're talking about 2 seperate types of people, 2 different species, 2 different lives and 2 different individuals. If you had the chance to bring both those people back for the sake of their friends and family versus someone who has technically NO ONE as their family, I'd choose the first one, to bring the other 2 back. It does suck that had to happen to Tuvix and I'm not saying it to be mean or harsh or whatever, but as one great Vulcan once said, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

And to also put it simply, it's not as black and white as people are saying. In some ways there were no right or wrongs here. It just happened. And there was a decision that had to be made, and she had to try and make the best decision she saw fit for the crew, the crewmembers in question, and their families if they made it back to Earth.

Agreed^^^

People are just trying to make Janeway out to be a bad captain with poor leadership capabilities and such. But she's so much more fit than any captain I've seen on Trek so far. Not that the other captain's weren't fit in their own way, but...oh well.

Yeah, I agree as well. She's actually a really good captain compared to a lot of them. She showed a different type of leadership. But I also like Captain Picard. Hence my screen name, .

Oh yeah, I forgot what I put for the poll. I agree with all 3 of them but I put the: First female captain in a lead role. I know she's technically not the first captain in Star Trek history, but she is for Star Trek TV history. It was a toss up between that and Coffee, black though.

Coffee, BLACK!

But I really think all things listed made Janeway who she was, though I think she ran a tighter ship than Picard dispite the fact she was 70,000 lightyears away from the federation....but maybe it's just easier to control a smaller ship..

Yes quite smaller, not to mention Voyager was way better. And Janeway had way more to protect than just her crew like technology and all that jazz.[/quote]

Going back to the Tuvix thing for a moment, it's not like Janeway made Tuvix turn into Neelix and Tuvok! She gave him a choice. She asked him what he wanted. I'm sure if he really didn't want to go, all he had to to was speak up and, despite the objections from the other crew members, Janeway probably would have let him live. I'm not saying that what she did was right or wrong, because it all goes into personal beliefs and opinions. Just that she did what she had to do. I think it would be cooler if they found a way to keep Tuvix, Neelix and Tuvok, but I know that would be impossible, lol...

If I recall Janeway was also very suicidal LOLOL
Whenever something bad were gonna happen she always put the ship in self destruct. Funny stuff.

Self destruct? only to save the other Voyager, and a few more where there was no way to stop whoever from getting Voyager's technology, which is of the utmost importance to Starfleet.
