How come some people say "I love you" when they mean "I'm really very fond of you"? It really pisses me off. And why do some people think that love and sex are the same thing?

I really love my boyfriend. I know because I cry all the time about it. It's driving me insane. Whenever I'm in love, my low self esteem makes me constantly fear the worst. It feels like I'm being stabbed.

I know my boyfriend doesn't love me...

I was just wondering, what's everyone else's views on love?

I've always been told you cant love anyone unless you love youself first. However I dont know how true that is. I do know my boyfriend loves me and I know that I love him. I guess Love is something that takes a long time to evolve you cant love someone at first sight

I think love is when your truly know that you found that paticular person. Like a person that is like wants to be with u forever and ever and be with a soul mate. Just like myself and a person that tells me everyday. Like someone makes u the person u should be treated and cared about and loved. Thier probley is some risks involved but you have to take chances and try your luck. Cause there is no shame in trying. But, you know theres always someone for everyone and doesnt matter who.

I find it to be a caring that's so deep you can't get away from it... like even when you're frustrated or disappointed in them, if they were having problems you'd put it aside for their better, because you care about them so much above petty issues and selfishness. So many people have tried to explain love, but I suppose it's different for everyone. To me the only worthwhile love is unconditional...loving the person, every bit of them, even when they're at their worst. And at their best too, of course. That's where the fun of it all comes from.

Very well said.

I find that to love someone means that first and foremost I need to enjoy their company and value my them wiht them. Not so much that I can't live without them, but when I'm with them I feel whole and comfortable and me.

Yeah, I agree. When you can see them at their worst and still feel that you love them. That is love.

thats really sad. You know you love someone when they're all you think about when you're not with them. I love my girlfriend more than anyone and I know that I love her because I would rather die than loose her.

I don't really believe in love. Unconditional love, actually. Except maybe from God?

I am really a romantic when it comes to love. I think there are different kinds though, like loving your neighbour, and then also intimate love with another person. There are two quotes that I think pretty much explain love:

Quote:

The person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being. His heart withers if it does not answer another heart. His mind shrinks away if he hears only the echoes of his own thoughts and finds no other inspiration.

AND
Quote:

Love is patient, Love is kind,
It does not envy, it does not boast,
It is not proud, It is not rude,
It is not self-seeking,
It is not easily angered,
It keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil,
but rejoices with the truth.

Love always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.

Love bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.

^I think that everyone needs to find someone with whom they can have that kind of deep love with, or else they really can never feel complete. I hope that one day I will be able to share that kind of love with someone.

I agree wholeheartedly with that Bible quote. 100%.
Love is UNCONDITIONAL.

Love is a great, big illusion that is very easy to believe. It's a tool used by people to get away from the fact that life is not that great. I don't have a problem with people that believe in finding "true love", but people that come to depend on love are in deep *beep*, I can tell you that right now.

Please excuse the negative rant, but it's from what I've learned and seen from my own experience.

*beep* love, why does it bring you to your knees?
Love is just another word for heart disease.

It's not even that, it's a state of mind. But yes, it could be seen as a heart disease without a cure, an epidemic that has struck all of mankind. Tragic, really. ^^

Yes, true. But life is supposed to be hard and crap. If it isn't, you're stupid or you've missed something that'll smack you in the face later on.

I have SAD. Every winter I am depressed, every summer I overheat. God hates me. That's why he made me fall in love with a jerk.

Bah. I say bah. God hates everybody, thus he loves all his children equally.

So basically... it's the "I don't descriminate, I hate everybody" take on life.

Wow... this is getting off topic...

Yes. Anyhow, I'll just leave this topic alone now. I've said what I wanted about love - it's an illusion and a disease.

Good evening, everybody!

This brings up an interesting question. Do we choose to love or not to love?

Personally, I don't think it's much of a choice when it comes to the emotion, but what you do with it is your choice...agonize over it, chase after someone who's bad for you, or not. I'm not saying it's wrong to go after someone you love, whoever it is, but for myself I've learned to let go of the unrelenting yearning for someone who I love, but isn't good for me. If you really want true love, consuming love that nurtures you, you have to find the right person--the "true" love, if you will, that will be in it for you as much as you are for them. That's when you really experience what it can be. Again, my thoughts, it's different for everyone, I'm sure.

I'm a hope-filled romantic at heart. You'll have to excuse it.
