Yeah, no kidding....it's really ridiculous that all Chirac says about it is how much he "expresses solidarity towards 'les violences urbaines' "...he's really REALLY pissing a lot of people off, including me...and L'Interieur Ministre hasn't done enough to prevent these riots........everytime I watch TV5, I get sick to my stomach because I see the images and video of la gendarmerie and how they're striking because a few were arrested due to "beating a man".....oooooooooooh, but it's okay because they're tired from all the "violence prevention" they've supposedly been providing..if that were true, thousands of cars would not have been torched, etc etc.
at Chirac and the Interior Minister.....AND the Gendarmes...or French Special Force Police, and the regular police...

^Agreed, even though I'm not in France. It's absolutely dispicable.

First of all, I want to make it clear that I don't support, or even condone, the use of violence. The tactics that the French rioters are employing are in no way acceptable. But I DO think, while we accept no excuse, we must understand the explanation - which is a very different thing.
It should not be a surprise to anyone that a people who are systematically kept back eventually "rage against the machine." Please note, I am not coming out in favor of this; I'm just making an observation of fact. When, time after time, people run up against a system that's effectively closed to them and continuously disempowers them, the reaction that, sooner or later, will come about is rage. When grievances, legitimate or not, can't be addressed thru the existing system, they will eventually be addressed outside of it.
What I'm saying is that what's happening in France is a complicated thing. It's not as simple as it looks at a superficial level. While the violence and disorder is in no way acceptable, it behooves the French government to recognize it as an outgrowth of the exclusion of a segment of their population, and to address the problem at that level.

I essentially agree. Hence, my aforestated analysis.
