Quote: | B.C. Mayoral Candidate Suggests Using Crack As Incentive For Addicted Homeless
POSTED: 10:48 am PST November 14, 2005
KELOWNA, B.C. -- A candidate in the mayoral race in Kelowna, B.C. suggests using crack to deal with the city's drug-addicted homeless people.
Andrew Uitvlugt says crack could be used as a reward or incentive to motivate people to do constructive work in the city, like picking up garbage.
Once they've done their duties, he figures the addicts will feel so good about themselves, they may not need the crack, or less of it.
You can hear his comments in a video campaign pitch on the website okbc.tv.
The candidate also wants to move the homeless to a combined shelter and retraining center at the city dump.
He says they could use the available materials to build things and get marketable skills.
Uitvlugt is one of the five candidates running in the November 19th municipal election.

There are times when I think I need a scale. On the far right end, at about 100 or so, there's Canadians like Stephen Lewis, who make me proud to be Canadian.
On the far left end, at about -100 or so, there's Canadians like Andrew Uitvlugt, mayoral candidate for Kelowna, B.C., who wants to offer crack to homeless people who will pick up garbage! His idea being to reward them with crack, hoping that their sense of a job well done will make them need less crack.
I have lost all hope that such people will key into reality.
So um . . . yeah. If you live in Kelowna, don't vote for him. Because that just might be insane. This guy is almost as scary as Marc Emery.

It is horrible. Unfortunetly there is the fact that if they really are addicts whose addiction is preventing them from being productive. This would allow the government to wean them from their addiction.
But garbage collection? Really bad example...especially with a delicate proposal.
Sad

Did this guy even graduate middle school? An addiction to crack is a physical problem, not a mental one.
And moving the homeless to a shelter at the city dump? Tsssss.

Yeah, giving crack to homeless people in order to clean up trash is just WRONG.
That's what prisoners are for.
