Star Trek: Outlying Territory

USS Antares has been through the mill. After sustaining heavy damage during the Dominion War, the Intrepid-class vessel was taken to the San Francisco Orbital shipyard and underwent repair. Now, the year is 2378, little more than a year since the War, and the Antares has received a new crew. A mere patrol ship, the Antares nonetheless harbors a promising little crew, safe under the bulkheads of a tough little ship. Safe enough, Starfleet has assumed, to be sent on patrol in the Typhon Expanse, the infamous Bermuda Triangle of the quadrant. Its first mission is a simple planetary survey of the Torvei and Garrat solar systems. Seemingly simple...

The Antares

Type: Light Cruiser
Length: 343 m Beam: 133 m Draft: 66 m, 15 decks
Mass: 700,000 metric tons
Crew: 150 Maximum
Speed: Warp 9.975 (cruising)
Armament: 13 Type-10 phaser arrays, 4 Photon torpedo tubes, tricobalt devices
Defenses: Deflector shields

From stem to stern, the Intrepid class starship is one of the most advanced in Starfleet. The class employs a new warp core design, variable-geometry pylons that reduced damage to subspace that allowed it to travel beyond the Federation Science Council's recommended speed-limit of warp 5, and the first to field both bioneural gel packs and the Emergency Medical Hologram system. (VOY: "Relativity")
Nearly three-hundred-fifty meters long, the Intrepid class is built sleek and long, sporting the fastest top speed on record for a Starfleet vessel with the exception of the new Sovereign and Prometheus class cruisers. The Intrepid class serves multiple functions based on its load out and size, ranging from patrol or escort duty to long-range exploration or survey. State of the art computer systems give the class unprecedented storage capacity, access speed, and rigor conditioning. This, combined with a wide array of sensors covering a large amount of the exposed surface, makes the Intrepid class a premier ship of the line for Starfleet's scientific endeavours. (VOY: "Message in a Bottle")

Planetary File - Torvei III

First discovered by the Klingon cruiser Je'tra, Torvei III is located within the Typhon Expanse. Little has been acertained about this planet, except a general accounting. It is class M, yet in an almost constant state of monsoon. It is majorly covered by jungle, indigeonous plant and animal life is indeterminate. It is home to three different forms of sentient life, pre-warp and not yet industrialized. Political and cultural information unknown.

The Players:

Arellia Forai

Username: Exalya
Position and Rank: Night Shift Doctor, Lieutenant J.G.
Age: 25
Species: Human
Bio: Arellia was born on the Lunar Colony, to a scientist mother and a security officer. She grew up hopping ships, being mostly self-taught but undeniably bright. She had always had an interest in medicine, ever since she was little, holed up in her room reading various PADDs. When she was 10 she was sent away back to the Lunar Colony to live with some friends of her parents, so she could get some social interaction. Unfortunately, this proved to the opposite. She was far ahead of her class and envied for her zest in science, and soon got into more fights than she knew what to do with. She learned the hard way how to fight in the streets--boys, girls, old, young, didnt matter. She had to defend herself. She was ecstatic to leave for Starfleet medical at the age of 16. She soared through her classes, ingenuitous to a fault, and was a favorite of the teachers (The students were best left to the Emergency room). Things changed when she turned 20, nearly halfway through school, when her parents were killed in a Dominion skirmish. Arellia was devastated, and after two years of only doing the least possible, she found the anger and drive to complete the rest of medical school. Still, her lower performances carried with her, and the only commission Starfleet had seen fit to give her was a position on the USS Aries, on night shift. She was left alone most of the time, and began working on extensive projects in diseases and Nanotechnology, not to mention taking a fleeting interest in command. Her father had been a Captain in the end, so she started in studying for attempting to earn a higher rank. She was recently transferred off the Aries due to somefrictionwith a certain Doctor Jeyin Denzi. Her new position is aboard the Antares, where she has decided to begin a new direction; perfection, and perhaps a return to the bright, outgoing girl she used to be.

T'Ror was one of the few Caitian science graduates. Most of his people joined Security onboard ships and stations. He had no combat experiance when it came to space. He wished he had joined in time to fight in the Dominion War. He was posted to the docking station above Earth. T'Ror was offered a chance to explore unknown areas of space on an Intrepid class ship. A science based ship was what he wanted. He quickly transfered and takes the OPS station on night shifts.

Username: Tuvok8917
Position and Rank: Security Detachement, Ensign
Age: 30

Sean moved in by Ray, and they were both happy. After graduating from Starfleet Academy, Sean and Ray were seperated from each other. Sean was send to the USS Lakota, while Ray was send to Starbase 12. After 5 years of serving on Starbase 12, Ray got an message from the familly of Sean, telling him that Sean died in battle in the Thyphoon Expanse. Since that day, Ray swore to revenge his friend, and asked for a transfer to a ship that is going to the Thyphoon Expanse. Starfleet transferred him to the USS Antares, were he hopes to find the killers of Sean, and to revenge him.
Notes from Counsellor Reaves*Counsellor of Starbase 12*: Since the dead of his mate, Sean, Ray drinks a lot of alcohol and has been really depressive. He still can serve in full duty, but i suggest to keep him away from the Messhall.

After an extended period of hard fighting, the last pockets of ground resistance finally crumbled and the 21st took up a position in a captured Dominion stronghold, to rest and await reinforcements. Just over a month later, the Dominion counterattacked with their new allies the Breen, overrunning the system before troops on the ground could be evacuated and trapping over a million soldiers, technicians, and noncombatants on the habitable world. During the long wait for Alliance forces to retake the system, most of these men and women were killed, but when releif finally came, the battered soldiers of the 21st were still clinging stubbornly to life, along with a mixed bag of other Alliance personnel who had managed to make it into their fortress, Fallow Core. Celebrated as heroes by the Alliance, and especially the Federation, the beleagured and exhausted soldiers were stood down to await transport to Staging Area Pegasus, in the Rigel system, just on the other side of the Typhon Expanse

If I get two more players, I would be happy to begin... I swear the plot twist will be an intriguing one. Any and all positions would be welcomed and encouraged. I'd reeeeeally rather not have this locked.

The Antares was a nice ship. Crisp little thing, very efficient. All smooth corridors and little compartments, hardy science section and a comfortable little sickbay. Of course, it wasn't exactly remarkable; not special or anything. Just your standard Intrepid-class.

Arellia, though, had never been assigned to an Intrepid, nor had she ever travelled aboard one. For tonight, she was going to pretend it was a unique little vessel. Tonight, she was going to pretend she was a crucial member of the crew, not just the lone doctor they chose for lack of better options. No. Tonight, she was better than all that. Though, sitting on the fringes of the room sipping on a cup of some sort of fruit drink, it appeared she wasn't convincing anyone else.

The mess hall was the center of the proceedings. There were scattered parties arranged all throughout the ship to counter for the conservatively sized mess hall, but this one was where the Captain was, where officers were filtering through at least once to get acquainted with their new colleagues. Arellia spotted the Captain--a woman, by the name of Elizabeth Becker--milling about, talking to various officers. Arellia shifted, idly fingering the tight bun at the back of her head, brushing a lock of carmel-blond hair from her face. Everyone was talking, but no one had talked to her, no one had even looked at her seriously all night. The Captain, however, was taking the liberty. The middle-aged red-haired woman siddled up to the doctor, smiling in a genial way with welcoming green eyes.

"Hello, Lieutenant," she said softly.

Arellia forced a work-appropriate smile and inclined her head. "Captain. I'm Dr. Forai."

"Oh...the night shift girl." Arellia winced. Despite the Captain's kindly tone, the title sounded so...degrading. "Well, I'm glad to have you aboard. I'm hoping you'll enjoy it here."

"Oh. Oh, yes." Arellia cleared her throat. "Thank you, ma'am. If you'll excuse me, I haven't met everyone yet, so I should just..." With as quick a stride as the crowd would allow, Arellia walked eyes downward towards the opposite side of the room in vague hope that perhaps she might find people of more comfortable interest. It was already 2300, the parties would, hopefully, be over shortly.

Joquan, a lieutenant Commander in the security feild. He was actually more like the assistant cheif of Security. He worked the night shift at the tactical station on the bridge. He had some Earl Grey tea, and was not doing well with mingling. He was never really a social person, save for the few he let into his life. Joquan looked acroosed the room and saw someone. She to seemed to be alone. Joquan hoped it was not something she prefered. He took a deep breath, and sighed. He steped over to her.

"Hello, I am Lieutenant Commander Joquan Endil."

((From the first post: "A mere patrol ship, the Naiad nonetheless harbors a promising little crew". Copy and paste is a really great tool, no? ))

The hum of the warp core in the background offset the punctuating rhythm of the console buttons. Teran did not think that whoever designed the computer should have introduced so many sound cues into it. At least it worked.

As he worked, a colleague--a human, by the name of Curtis Walker--approached with a goofy grin on his face. The doors to main engineering swished shut behind the ensign, who came up to Teran. "Hey, why aren't you at the party?"

Teran regarded Walker with a critical eye. "The plasma conduits require recalibration."

"It can wait until the morning."

Aside from the fact that it was nearly "the morning," when Walker's shift was due to begin, Teran did not want to go to the party. "I am content to remain here, Ensign Walker."

The engineer held up his hands and sighed. "Fine, you win. Have fun . . . I'm going to bed." The doors opened and closed again to let him out. Once again, Teran was left in engineering to finish these calibrations while the other engineers were sleeping or attending the party.

Slow footsteps were heared in the corridor. Ray appeard from the shadows, having a phaser in one hand and a light in the other. After being transported onboard the Antares, Ray quickly reported to the Security Chief. The Chief, who was about to go to bed, gave him a simple, though terrifying job. Ray had to patrol trough all decks, to see if there were any troubles. Untill know, nothing interresting happened. A few Officers walked by, welcoming him to this ship, but that was all. If it was Ray's choice, he would've been on the party. There he could meet new people, people who he never met. But, as the Security Chief on Starbase 12 always said: "Ya work is more importnt, then a party, kid." and Ray always followed his advise. A luitenant stopped infront of him.

Luitenant: "I never seen you on this ship before. You must be new then. I'm Luitenant Mcfly, you?"

Ray looked at the luitenant. It was a though build man, with a nice face.

"Ensign Montanna. Nice to meet you, sir."

He hold a hand infront of the luitenant. The man grabbed it, and shaked the hand.

Luitenant: "Please, don't call me sir. I'm not you're commanding officer. Call me Kurt or Fly, you may say."

Ray smiled to him.

"Okay, Kurt."

He said to him. Kurt laughed, and then pointed to the padd he was holding.

"I have to go now, they await my report in Science. See you later, Montanna."

Ray saw him walking away. He then reminded something.

"Wait! Call me Ray, that's my name."

Kurt laughed and said quick "Ok, Ray." and walked away, leaving Ray alone again.

Arellia looked up and graced the man with a small smile, hand extended. "Dr. Arellia Forai." She paused, "Also the errant member of the herd, Mr. Endil?" She glanced about the room cautiously. The Captain was apparently getting ready to make a final speech before the party ended, the room was a swirl of red, blue, and yellow uniforms. Arellia instinctively gripped her cup tighter as not to lose it. In the back of her mind, thoughts of her first night on duty checked through the list of things she could concievably do while sitting idly by.

Joquan chuckled.

"I suppose you could say that"

Joquan held a hand out.

"Pleased to meet you Doctor."

Joquan was indeed pleased to meet her. He could tell that this person, was one to try to get to know better. She might even be one he gets to call "friend" something that does not happen often.

Arellia's smile turne into a more genuine sort, and she hook the man's hand firmly. She sighed, taking another sip from her cup, deciding she liked it. She was about to speak, but was interrupted by the Captain.

"May I get everyone's attention?" Elizabeth called. It took a moment before the room calmed, but eventually the effect was achieved. She hoisted herself up on one of the tables, gaining a few inches on everyone. "Before I send you off to your stations, I want to welcome those of you I didn't get to meet. I look forward to working with all of you. I know that there are some here that really don't want to be on this vessel. Since the Dominion wars, ships like the Antares have been placed back on trivial missions--trivial, at least, by reputation. I want this crew to grow beyond that. No matter our mission, we are here together, and I am dedicated to making it an adventurous experience for all of us. As we near the Typhon Expanse, we're entering somewhat dangerous and uncharted area. I give this ship my blessing, and hope for only the best of times ahead." She smiled wider, eyes searching the crowd. "Take your time heading back to your stations. A good night to you all."

The speech was followed by a hearty serving of applause, in which Arellia joined. The Captain was a decent woman, it seemed, far better than those she'd served under before. When the applause receded, she returned her attention to Joquan. "Are you heading on duty or to bed, Lieutenant?"

A Vulcan ensign began to leave the assembly, if one could call it that. Volch du Sema was his name, but he was called Volch. Half-Vulcan, Volch's mother was a human and father a Vulcan. He tended, though, to ignore the former fact--ignoring the fact that half of him was human.
Volch would be considered an elderly man, if he were entirely human, at the age of 82, but he, by Vulcan terms, was far from it. Sema had previously been a scholar on Vulcan but determined that it was time to go abroad. And so, he joined starfleet.
Focussed, the Vulcan with the most awkward of names for a Vulcan, who had not until recently joined Starfleet, had had only one previous assignment, on board the USS Onderon. During that experience he came to the judgment that humans truly were irrational, illogical beings who were too emotional to do their work to a sufficient status.
Why had he signed up for security, when he was an intelligent man who worked well with science? He had no idea. It was an illogical decision, he had come to realize, but Volch would make due with it. He was the oldest person on the ship, despite being one of the lower-ranking officers, and felt that a Security post would be the perfect positions to rise up the ranks to eventually have a crew of his own, to be one of the few logical Captains in Starfleet.
As the ensign walked, his arms clasped behind his hands, he walked past Arellia--although he did not know her--and moved to the security office. There he would await orders from the Chief of Security. Volch du Sema--Volch Sema--walked on, without talking to anyone whatsoever.

Ensign T'Ror stood at the OPS station on the bridge. It was the first time he was ever able to be at OPS. The Chief OPS officer was at the party and left the station to him. T'Ror was pleased. Everything was quiet and he had time to run scans of space. An interesting spatial anomaly was only one light year away. It was a shame they could not be diverted to study it. The large feline humanoid sighed inwardly. Every time something was going on that was remotely interesting, he would be at a station on the bridge that did little but regulate ship systems or help in some minute way. Then again he was grateful he was at least on the bridge...

"Well, it just so happens I have tonight off, but I am to excited to sleep. I think I might tour the ship, How about you?"

"I'd love to."

Joquan set his cup down on a table. It seemed it was something that didnt come from a replicator. He waited for Arellia to get ready.

Arellia nodded briskly, making her way through the crowd into the corridor. She didn't check to be sure he was following, she just began walking. She surveyed the ominous corridors, clasping her hands behind her back. She watched as the Captain headed into the turbolift. Elizabeth was supposedly heading to the bridge, even though it wasn't technically her duty time. The woman apparently loved her job. Arellia stopped at one of the other turbolifts, one not yet crowded by people, and turned to be sure she hadn't lost Joquan on her way.

Joquan had stayed almost every step of the way behind Arellia. He was pleased to find his new posting was on an Intrepid class starship. He had been on a couple before, and liked it. Joquan steped beside Arellia when she stoped at the turbolift.

"Never thought I would see the corridor this croweded in a non-emergancy."

Arellia smirked, stepping into the 'lift and leaving room for Joquan. She called for the deck and nodded. "It's pretty bad. At least people are enjoying themselves, though."

Joquan entered the turbolift. The newer design felt more cozy.

"This is true doctor, as long as people are enjoying themselves?"

Joqan stared ahead for a moment, then turned to Arellia.

"What sparked your decision to join starfleet?"

Volch, half-Vulcan, half-human, entered the Security HQ and took a seat, waiting for the Chief of Security to arrive. He thought for a moment about what the days ahead would be like for him, among such illogical beings for such a prolonged amount of time. He examined the environment around him.
Suddenly, a Security officer, another Ensign, appeared out of no where.
"Hello, Mr. Vulcan!" the human officer said, happily and loudly.
"Hello, Ensign," Volch replied, annoyed.
"I'm Ensign Barney Johnston. And you are..."
"Volch du Sema," Volch replied, annoyed even further. "I insist that you leave me alone."
"Why so grumpy, Volch? We're on a Starship, about to embark on an excitin mission--and in Security, no less! Mr. Vulcan, what's there to be unhappy about?"
"Vulcans do not have emotions," Volch responded. Why wouldn't this man go away?

"My parents, I suppose. Arellia answered, shrugging a bit. "They were both officers. They were killed by the Dominion not too long ago... but I believed in how they lived. I never really got used to civilian life for the few years I lived there." The turbolift stopped, and she stepped out, heading into sickbay. "What about you?"

Engineering

Commander Tovek was standing at a console in engineering. Most of the ship was still a hum with the party's activity, but he held no interest. What he was concerned with was far deeper. In his hand he held a small chip. He nonchalantly placed it in one of the cumputer's reading devices, looking about cautiously. He knew he was taking a chance being near the warpcore, but he had to start at the source. The console beeped approvingly, and he quickly took back the chip. No one would be able to detect his input, that he was certain of. But everyone would feel it, eventually.

Joquan took a breath, then spoke.

"It was the only place for me to go. I had a falling out with my father one day. I went out the door, not knowing where to go, or what to do."

The pair arrived to the doors of sicbay.

I ended up going by an acadamy training field. I watched, liked what I saw, so I signed up."

Ray walked trough the corridor. When he was almost by Sickbay, he heard two people talking to each other. He slowed down, and appeard infront off Sickbay. He saw a man and a woman talking to each other. He nodded to them, and walked slowly further, heading to the Turbolift.

Arellia nodded in turn to the man as he walked by and entered Sickbay with Joquan. It was empty. This it shouldn't have been, but Arellia guessed the CMO was busy acquainting himself with the senior staff. She walked behind the desk in the office, running her fingers over it thoughtfully. "I'm very sorry about that," she said sincerely, looking up at her new-found friend. "I'm sure it was difficult."

Security

Lieutenant Commander Devon Tres entered the security office. Two ensigns, a Vulcan and a Human, were seated and apparently talking. Devon, the shortest in the room, dark hair pulled back and chocolate-colored skin dusted by the light, stood in front of them an smiled tightly. "Hello, boys." She said, her soft, more-than-slightly-girlish voice slipping into the air between them. "Lieutenant Commander Devon Tres, cheif of security. You may call me Tres. And you are...?"

The Bridge

Captain Becker took her seat in the big chair, looking about the bridge curiously. A young helm officer sat quietly, tapping out commands. Dulled beeps echoed throughout the room. Every station was occuppied, but her First Officer, Tovek, was missing. She passed it off as a mere difficulty finding his way through the crowded corridors. "ETA?" She called out.

The human male at ops didn't turn around. "At present speed, one half hour before we reach the edges of the Expanse."

Elizabeth smiled. So, the fun would begin. No chance of going to sleep tonight.

Joquan nodded.

"Thanks"

Joquan noticed how empty the room was. It was strange. Usually, someone was always in sickbay.

"It was even harder on my mother. My father and I both are stuborn men."

Joquan took in the sight. The sickbay was quaint, with efficancy and comfort in mind.

Arellia nodded somberly, then cleared her throat. "Well, if you happen to be due for a physical, I can take care of that. Otherwise you're free to check out the rest of the ship. Sticking around with me might be a little boring for you...nothing but some double-checking of where things are and looking over my research files."
