I think it isn't, as Bill is a valid alternative to Will

I never knew Deanna called Riker Bill. I thought it was her accent.

I can't vote this poll as I think both possibilities are not applicable.

I think Deanna doesn't call Will Riker 'Bill'. I think it might should like Bill but actually it's Will.

I never realized this... I'll watch for it next time a season 1 episode is on.

She says it (I'm pretty sure) when she walks up to him in Engineering in "The Naked Now", before he carries her to sickbay, and I'm sure she says it a few episodes after as well.

"Bill" is a common nickname for people with the name "William." There was no error.

Apparently it's not a mistake...seeing as to how they once had a relationship previous to season one...and it is a nick name.

I was gonna make that example...but there are so much better examples...

William Shatner=Bill Shatner.

It's like Robert Picardo...I've read that people call him Bob Picardo...same difference.

I didn't notice that Deana called him Bill, but William can be shortnd to Bill like William Shatner... although now we're on the subject I did once hear Captain Picard call Deana "Diana" and that is a mistake did anyone notice him saying it once?

or it could have been the actor's accent at that particular moment in time...I haven't seen what you're talking about, but it's just a suggestion that makes sense...to me at least...LOL
