PostSun Oct 09, 2005 5:37 pm    Do you ever gamble?

Do you ever gamble? If so, why? Is it for fun? Is it in the hope of winning the big one? Or maybe a bit of both.

I gamble very RARELY. For me, it's more about fun. If I gamble, say, 10 (about $17), it's all about the fun of possibly winning, and just being on the edge of my seat watching a sporting contest. Now and again, that can be enjoyable. But I'm not one for gambling on a regular basis and certainly not to try and make a living. I'd rather spend my money on actually investing in something, not dreaming for the big one.

Any thoughts, folks?

Why not buy a million tickets? You're bound to win then.

Don't worry, it was just a joke. Anyone who could buy a million tickets wouldn't need to become a millionaire.

Yeah, I buy lottery tickets when I remember, or when it's sky high, like now, and instant lottery tickets once in awhile, but that's about it.
I do like to play poker online, though. (Fake money and all).

Online poker is a big thing now. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing, I guess it's down to the individual and how disciplined he/she is.

This forum really needs an adult forum (18 and over) to discuss such wonders.

I don't gamble. Mostly because I'm not old enough

However, come April when I am old enough, I plan on buying a lottery ticket once in a while. The instant kind, less complicated that way

I've only been to the casino 3 times! The 1st time was right after I turned 18. I went with my mom and aunt, and spent $5 in nickles and won $25!! I keep what i win! Then i went again a year later and took my friend from Germany who was visiting the United States to a casino b/c she had never been to one before -- definitly an american experience !! The last time I went was with my ballet teacher Amber and friend Sara. I went and only spent my $5 of nickels. I went just to hang out with them. We were there for 4hrs! I watched them spend money out of their ears and i just hung out and chatted the whole time! I don't like how smokey it is there wither, and i always get a headache. Gambling just doesn't appeal to me! I don't understand when it does .

It's all about fun for most people, including me. But as I said at the beginning of this topic, I RARELY do it.

On the rare occasion I have visited a casino, it's been more for the social interaction, the drink and atmosphere. Anything I win is just a bonus. As long as I have a good night, I don't care about losing a small amount.

From everything I've heard the best thing to do when you go to the casino is pick an amount and only gamble that much. My dad has some friends at work who did that and hit the jackpot (about $10,000, I think) The stuck to their limit, and now every few years the hotel invites them back, pays for their room and gives them a bunch of chips for free. They only spend what the hotel gives them.

If I ever go to Vegas that's about what I'm going to do.

I suppose if you call betting on football games, and the occasional Texas Hold 'Em or black jack game gambling then, yeah.

I very occasionally get a lottery ticket, or visit a penny arcade. It's just for fun, though sometimes I get lucky on the 2p machines

I went on a one day cruise with my friend a year ago here in GA and I won 80 dollars. I wished I won more.

Yes, months ago i won 90 dollars on the wheel of fortune slot but now I quit gambling because I lost all of that money because I did not stop after getting that high silly me.

(I might go back gambling if I feel like not doing that ever again)

I have a strategy for them (and the 10p ones) which always works. The important thing to remember with them is to walk away once you've made a profit. DO NOT be tempted to throw it all away again in the hope of making even more money.
