Well, it's certainly been getting the reviews! The only thing not adding up is the box office figures. o.O

Mac users, you'll need to use Safari for this. Firefox won't work.

From what I can tell it seems as though it's getting rave reviews but not enough people are seeing it.

Am off tomorrow to see it at 9pm GMT - am taking housemates with me so hopefully they'll like it as much as I will. Managed to keep myself un-spoiled as well so well done me!

Overall I think it was an entertaining movie. It didn't lose much of the appeal from the TV series. However, some characters were not true to the TV series. Jane would not have talked back to Mal, and would not have suggested he lead them. Simon is mister tough guy now. He was passive in the TV series.

The movie has high ratings from several places. I'm curious how the "general audience," the people that haven't seen the series, thought of the movie.

Oh yeah.... Does it seem like the ending leaves open the possibility for a sequel or maybe (I hope) a return of a TV series?

They ment to do that. If the movie grosses enough money, then they're going to make it into a trilogy. I've got a hunch that Joss has it all planned out...

Well of the four people who went to see it tonight with me (all 19 year old lads and only me being the sci-fi fan), the reviews were (brace yourself for some stunning comments here):
1) "Yeah it was good"
2) "It was alright but nothing special"
3) "Yeah it was really good" (though later pointed out that he wouldn't bother picking up the DVD of it - cited that it was too long (Pfft!)

Personally, I thought it was good though as you say Morphy, some personalities had changed just so slightly lol.

As for the atmosphere in the cinema itself, it was very, very good. There was alot of laughter and towards the end, the room felt very tense which I presume is a good sign.

The cinema was full but that's not so surprising since it's the film's first 'proper' (ie. not 'Advanced Screenings') night.

Felt good to hear people asking for tickets for 'Serenity' at the Box Office though lol - did have a slight fear that the room would be empty

My father, who has not seen the series, called it "excellent," which is high praise because he's quite critical of movies, and expressed an interest in watching the series.

The ending definitely leaves an opening, but I would only want it to be used if genuine story was present.

Well my mom adored it and she usually runs a mile from anything with a storyline!

I'm so delighted that I FINALLY got to see it! For me, it lacked the appeal of the series... I found that some characters had been changed and the beginning sequence is not at all like the explaination Simon gave in the series of how he got River out... I'll just assume that Joss knows what he's doing on that count! Was majorly mad at the movie cause in my opinion Mal's character was nothing as good as in the series. He lacks the kind of depth that he used to have... don't get me wrong, I ADORED the movie, but for me nothing will ever equal Firefly...

(also, now that I'm home and it's dark I'm thinking: "can't sleep, reavers will eat me" *shudder*)

Yeah, the feel did change a little. But it had to, a movie is nothing like a TV show. Personally, I wish they had more of Inara, and maybe a bit more of Wash before they got to Mr. Universe.

But yeah, I'm still reeling from it and I've seen it 3 times

Gotcha beat. Seen if five times.

Mal's character was pretty consistent with how he was in the pilot of the series, before Fox insisted he be lightened up.

At least I can finally look at the Serenity novelisation and "Visual Companion" that I bought before - the Visual Companion is excellent by the way and the novelisation captures the so-called 'Verse perfectly.

Off to see it again on Tuesday with a few more Uni mates who couldn't make it first time round - obviously I have to go with them

By the time all is done, I'll have taken close to twenty people to see the film - Yey! Obviously they won't have a choice and kidnapping may become an issue in several places but hey, never mind.

I agree. Mal was consistent and he had to be if the movie was going to appeal to viewers like the tv series.

It still doesn't seem to be pulling in the numbers - what do you reckon the chances of a sequel are?

I say someone should put an announcement up on the board INSTRUCTING all members to go see it

At this point, I don't see Universal saying "Let's do another of those!" unless the DVDs sell exceptionally well.

However, Joss Whedon is something of a rising star at the moment; he's writing Wonder Woman, and he has another Universal project in the pipeline as well. If he eventually develops a real name for himself as a movie director, he could probably do a sequel if he wanted to at that point.

It's...hard to describe really. It's sci-fi without being sci-fi-ish, a western without being a western, it's got comedy touches in as much as action and horror all mixed in together in a way that (surprisingly) works.

As for the story, some people have described it as the adventures of Han Solo (with the ship 'Serenity' taking the place of the Millennium Falcon) and his crew. The main story revolves around a passenger that Serenity picks up (in the series) who might not be what she appears.

Turns out that River (said passenger) escaped from the Alliance (kinda like the Empire in Star Wars but not as clear-cut) who are hot on Serenity's trail.

On top of that, there are savage cannibals roaming the edge of the galaxy and before long, Serenity finds herself caught between the two.

Hopefully that's enough of a plot for you that doesn't spoil anything.

It's definitely a good film - everyone I've been to see it with has praised it, nobody has had a bad word for it despite them saying that without my 'persuasion' they probably wouldn't have bothered with it. One friend who I took is a die-hard Star Wars fan and when I said I liked it better than Star Wars he couldn't believe it. Now that he's seen it, he has already ordered the Firefly series boxset and says he'll definitely be buying the film.

As far as I'm concerned it's definitely one of the best films I've seen this year but being a Firefly fan already, I am slightly biased

That's a decent description. For a glimpse, you can check out the First Nine Minutes of the movie. (If that Java-based player doesn't work for you----which probably means you're using Linux, or something other than Safari on a Mac----the clip is also on iFilm.

The movie has left a lot of theaters now, but it's still in a few. Catch it while you can.

I went and saw this at the cinema the first night it came out over here. I thought it was excellent! I remember in the opening bit my jaw just dropped to the floor when the man and woman at the begining and just slid down the sword. OMG OMG that shocked me so much! I thought througout the film it was excellent! i left the cinema very pleased.
