Nov 1: Experience Episode III on DVD and Star Wars Battlefront II
July 25, 2005

This November 1st will be a landmark day for fans to celebrate the saga with two major releases in Star Wars home entertainment. The explosive and emotional finale to the saga,Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, arrives on DVD and Star Wars Battlefront II, the sequel to the most successful Star Wars game ever, arrives on Xbox, Playstation 2, Windows PC and Sony PSP formats.

Lucasfilm and Fox Home Entertainment present a two-disc set for the Revenge of the Sith DVD, with uncompromising picture and sound mastered directly from the original digital source material. The DVD will include a brand-new full-length documentary produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. as well as two new featurettes -- one that explores the prophecy of Anakin Skywalker as the Chosen One, and the other that looks at the movie's amazing stunts. A 15-part collection of Lucasfilm's groundbreaking web documentary series, Making Episode III, will also be included in the set. A two-level playable demo of Star Wars Battlefront II is also included on the DVD.

"Revenge of the Sith gave audiences an extraordinary experience, and we want this DVD to do the same," said Jim Ward, Vice President of Marketing and Distribution for Lucasfilm Ltd. "From the beginning of production, George wanted to be sure we chronicled everything that went into the making of Episode III specifically to create an incredible DVD experience. This DVD has literally been three years in the making, and it's going to be a fantastic way to complete the Star Wars saga at home."

In addition to its November 1st debut in the U.S. and Canada, Revenge of the Sith debuts on DVD in most major territories around the world on or about the same day.

[ Nov 1: Experience Episode III on DVD and Star Wars Battlefront II ]

In addition to the group combat, Star Wars Battlefront II also has an all-new single-player experience that transports gamers through an epic, story-based saga centering on Darth Vader's elite 501st Legion of stormtroopers.

Trove of Behind-the-Scenes Extras on Episode III DVD
September 26, 2005

On November 1, Revenge of the Sith will be coming to DVD. All the action, spectacle, drama and emotion of the Star Wars finale will be available for home viewing with unprecedented picture and sound quality, mastered directly from the digital source material. Aside from the movie itself, the DVD release contains a wealth of behind-the-scenes bonus material that examines the making of Episode III.

The bonus material is found on disc two, the centerpiece of which is a newly produced feature called Within a Minute. Envisioned as a "mini-film school," the documentary takes a 49-second sequence of the movie and examines all the work that went into its creation. From pre-production artists to costume designers, from camera operators to make-up artists, from sound designers to musicians and more, the cast and crew of Episode III are featured in this documentary hosted by Producer Rick McCallum.

"There are hundreds of names and jobs in the end credits of Revenge of the Sith, but hardly anyone understands just what all of those people do and what an enormous contribution they make to the movie," says Tippy Bushkin, director of Within a Minute. "By focusing on less than 60 seconds of the movie, Rick McCallum and George Lucas examine the entire process of making Episode III in a fun and fascinating way."

In addition to Within a Minute, there are two other documentary featurettes -- The Chosen One, which examines Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader; and It's All For Real, a look at the stuntwork of Episode III. There are also 15 installments of the popular Making Episode III web documentary series that premiered on starwars.com Hyperspace.

Also among the bonus material on disc two are deleted scenes that expand the story of Episode III. Already, members of Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club have sneaked glimpses of three of them. "The deleted scenes include one that fans have been waiting a long time to see, one that shows Yoda arriving on the swamp planet of Dagobah," says Jim Ward, Senior Vice President of Lucasfilm and Executive Producer of the DVD release. "George worked with Industrial Light & Magic and Producer Rick McCallum to finish most of these scenes with complete visual effects and sound design, and they bring a new perspective to the movie."

For the complete behind-the-scenes look at Episode III -- including webcam footage of production as it happened, bonus videos, behind-the-scenes diaries, and first looks into the DVD -- you'll need to be a member of Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club. If you're not yet a member, sign up today.

You don't have the solid version, and the one with all the extras. You should REALLY support the company and all that stuff and get the REAL THING. Not to mention, all the extras it'll have.

Nonetheless, you should still support the company and buy it. And yes. Read the above articles. It tells you all about it. Plus the deleted scenes.

You guys are silly.

I'm sure I'm going to get this on DVD, but I'm also tempted to wait and see if there's going to be a combination trilogy of the first 3 movies. That's tempting too.

But I have to say that it does look amazing.

They will MOST DEFINITELY be coming out with an original trilogy set, but not for a long while. My guess is a year, or more. And they will eventually come out with an all-in-one box set. However, you won't get all of the cool extra features and everything in the 3-in-one etc stuff. Plus, you should get it immediately. I have the following, or am going to be getting the following:

Original Trilogy, VHS
Special Edition Trilogy, VHS
Episodes IV-VI Fullscreen, DVD
Episode I, DVD
Episode I, VHS
Episode II, DVD
Episode II, VHS
Episode III, DVD
Episode III, VHS
Original Trilogy DVD set
All-in-one set

I'm hoping that they'll release a 3-film prequel boxset like they did with the original trilogy. I'm thinking that may be out soonish and that, possibly, they may do a 6-film boxset to tie in with the films 30th anniversary in 2007.

As it is there are alot of good films coming out soon so I'll probably spend my money on those and wait for Star Wars to come out in a boxset. I didn't think it was that impressive anyway lol

Go see Serenity instead

Star Wars Episode III is the BEST MOVIE EVER. NO reason to see Serenity or whatever instead. SWIII is the movie to see. And don't wait to get it. You should REALLY GET IT NOW! Don't wait for STAR WARS!

The original Star Wars movies were amazing. The recent ones have been okay, but nowhere near the quality of the originals.

Serenity on the other hand...I think everyone should go see it. It's setting itself up to be one of the best sci-fi movies in years

Well I still stick that Serenity is better and I've not even seen it yet. If Star Wars is actually better than I tell you now I will come on here and humbly eat my words.

Sadly, it ain't gonna happen.

Star Wars has alot of expectation behind it with it being the finale of a franchise. Serenity is starting from scratch without the hype, without the promise of Darth Vader or anything like that.

When Serenity comes out, go see it and ask yourself whether Revenge of the Sith would be able to stand on its own the way that Serenity is going to.

Sure, Star Wars is good, Republican_Man but when you see Serenity and see the depth of these characters, the quality of the acting and in particular the dialogue compared to Star Wars....well, all I will say is go and see it and then come back and tell us what you think. Don't dismiss it out of hand simply because it doesn't have "Star Wars" in the title
