PostWed Sep 14, 2005 11:59 am    Episode: Scorpion I

There is probably already a thread about this somewhere but I've looked back through a few pages and can't find one... didn't this episode just rock? Some awesome Janeway/Chakotay character development, the coolness of Species 8472, the decision to ally with the Borg... what a kick butt season finale!!!

It was good and all but I still think it could've been improved.

Killing off Janeway

And I think that there should've been more information on 8472 and when they "attacked" the borg and such.

Hey, absolutely no Janeway bashing in my thread!!!! :p

Well, since the Borg were getting blown to bits at the time, I don't think that they were able to gather a whole heap of info... and as it was said in the episode, the Borg only gather info by assimilating so they don't know how to investigate... I would have liked to know more about 8472 but its understandable why there wasn't much known about them... seems like they've been destroying a lot, which doesn't leave a whole load of detailed information about the species...

That's true I'll agree, but I still think the borg are capable of finding out information through means other than assimilating it.

Well of course the Borg are capable of obtaining info in any other way than assimilating... But Trek didn't intend for that to happen... The Borg just don't. Every species has their own way of gathering knowledge and the Borg find it more efficient to do it their way...

But I think that's what the episode "Prey" and the one where they created a Starfleet training ground...can't remember the name off the top of my head. I think that's why Trek came up with those two episodes...to give us a more in depth look at Species 8472, but to still keep them mysterious to us...

I think that the air of mystery surrounding 8472 may have been the possible intention for a Voyager movie... I mean why create such a cool (and expensive CGI) species if you're hardly gonna use them? The series had to end with Voyager getting home so maybe they wanted to leave it open for a movie; problem with 8472 and the Voyager crew are the only ones with experience etc etc....

I like them both...I think the 2nd is better...but I think they're both pretty good. It's two great episodes of Janeway and Chakotay...

Actually I was delighted that he finally showed some backbone! The reason that she trusts Chakotay so much is that he has morals... I would expect them to stick to them, even if it meant disagreeing with Janeway. Besides, he still obeyed her orders, he was just letting her know that he really believed that it wasn't a good idea... a very un-Chakotay thing to do would have been to disobey her orders in some way... I don't like the way that we get brief glimpses of Chakotay's actual character and the rest of the time he's about as much use as a ... well as a piece of corrugated cardboard to refer to another thread! I mean, I really liked him but they never developed his character enough and he only has rare bursts of genuine personality... grrr to the writers on that one...

Well I thought Scorpion I rocked but I don't know how good it is compared to Voyager eps overall... it just felt amazing after the episodes I was being subjected to before such as Before and After, Favourite Son and Rise... *shudders*

I know, it's not the most valid reason ever but hey... did anyone else appreciate how awesome it was to see John Rhys Davies in Trek? LotR and Trek... the best things in the world combining at last!

FOR REAL!!!??? I didn't even notice! I mean...Gimli sounded a little familiar but I didn't even know that he was Da Vinci!!! How awesome?! I gotta tell my dad...He's not gonna believe it. So we have to Trek actors in LotR...Worm Tounge as Sudor, and Gimli as Da Vinci!

Yeah my LotR obsession was even bigger than my Trek obsession in its time so even if I hadn't seen his name in the credits I woulda recognised him... hehe imagine Picard as Gandalf!!! rotfl...

that would have been hilarious...but I don't know if he could have done as the person they picked...but it would have, I'm sure, still been good.

I don't know if it's his name or not, but I know that's what he's called. I only have seen the movies...so I don't know much of the in-depth stuff that the book gives out that's not in the movies.

The character's actual name was Grma but he was generally known as Wormtongue (all one word!) because he was a sneak and a liar and a bad advisor to the king... if you haven't seen Lord of the Rings I do recommend it... darn brilliant movies, but of course the books are better!

EDIT: Wait, who's Sudor?
