Okay... where to start...?
Basically, I've loved the Offspring since I was about 9 and have always wanted to see them live. At my last party, my friend Ash let it slip that my friend Sam is paying for her and Jen to go and see them live in concert in London. I was not invited. "So what?" I thought and accepted it. You can't always get what you want.
Okay, so the other day, Ash is skipping round school going "give me an Offspring song to sing" so I give her about 10 different songs and she either can't remember how they go, or she can't remember any of the words. I think this is majorly unfair as I know all the words to practically all of their songs, and it doesn't seem fair that a major fan should go instead of me. Then Ash says that I should ask Sam to pay for me to go, which I refuse to do because that is disgustingly rude.
I get really badly upset, go home, get even more upset and cry non stop for about 4 hours. No one in the house notices. I feel completely invisible, not only are my friends going to a concert without me, but no one in the house noticed I'd been howling my eyes out for a very long time.
I look on ebay for last minute ticket deals, thinking that I might be able to go if I buy my own ticket. Unlike Ash and Jen who are LOADED (they always have tons of money) I have only just enough money for a ticket.
And that's when it hits me: I have to choose between going to see something I've wanted to since I was 9... or buying my dad a birthday present.
Whichever I do, I will feel awful, and it's very unlikely that I will ever get the chance to see the offspring again.
Suggestions? Comments? Please?

Personally I think that your father's birthday takes presedence over a concert.... but that's from a tone deaf point of view... since I can't hear music. lol.
I'd say...
Get your father a birthday present... and then see if you have enough cash left over to go.

well, i will advice too talk with your dad, tell him the story about the tickets. I'm sure he's willing too wait. of course, first thing you could do is ask your friends to pay for your ticket, and say you will pay him back, thats not rude. Then you can go too the concert AND buy your father a birthday present. of course, depends on how close of a firend he is.
coincidence: i just bought my mother a birthday present this afternoon

Not trying to be rude here.
I'm a little suprised by your behavior. This seems a little immature of you.
Youo have to accept the fact that sometimes, Ruth, you can't always get what you want.
Also, what you can do is maybe get your dad a card and/or make him something. I'm sure he'd understand how badly you want this and if he wanted a better present (which I'm sure isn't the case) maybe they should work on giving you a better allowance.
If I were in y our shoes I would go if I wanted to see them as bad as you do. Afterall they aren't making any more hits ... they are already fading away. Who knows when they'll perform again?

I know how you feel. My friend got tickets to Carmen (the opera) for her and a few of our other friends and completely forgot about me. However, I'd get your dad something for his birthday, it would probably mean a lot to him, and since you got him something for his birthday that puts you on his goodside which will help you in the long run.

This is so infuriating. After the Ebay auction ended and I didn't get the tickets, I asked my dad what he wanted for his birthday and he said that I shouldn't bother getting him anything! That sucks! EVERYONE else I know is going, but I have to stay home because it's the night before my brother goes to university. And on top of that, all my friends expect me to single handedly organise and rocking Halloween party, an end of year prom and make them all presents for christmas/birthday. I could scream.
I'm so broke right now that I look like a bag lady.

I hate to be the one to say this but this sounds like one of those 'character building' scenarios that we all know and despise... you just gotta grin and bear it... people aren't always going to do the unselfish thing, sometimes its just up to you to be a big enough person to do that...
(note that I'm so not downing you, it sounds like your friends are pretty much being jerks right now)
