Jay-Z, Sean 'Diddy' Combs and Matt Damon are among a host of stars who have applauded Kanye West for his public attack on Us President George W. Bush on Friday. During an appearance on A Concert For Hurricane Relief - a live telethon broadcast across America - West broke away from his script to voice his disgust at the media's portrayal of the Gulf Region's African-Americans and to slam the slow delivery of aid. But the biggest stir of all came when West boldly declared, "George Bush doesn't care about black people." West's Def Jam colleague Jay-Z says, "I'm backing Kanye 100 per cent. This is America. You should be able to say what you want to say. We have freedom of speech. (The slow response to the disaster) is really numbing. You can't believe it's happening in America. You wonder, what's going on? Why were people so slow to react? I don't understand it." Combs notes, "I think he spoke from his heart. He spoke what a lot of people feel... It ain't adding up, man. It's not making sense. If the reporters can get there and you all can get there with microphones, somebody should be able to get there with food." Damon adds, "This guy with his moment on live television made a statement that hopefully now Bush will come out and address, because he doesn't have to address anything else... The White House Press Corp, they should all have their credentials taken away. Not one of them's an honest journalist. Not one of them asked a question of the guy." Meanwhile, actress Susan Sarandon has a slightly different take on West's comments: "I don't think that's an original thought, but it's probably true."

All of thoese people just lost a ton of respect from me. Hmmp, Im ashamed right now to have movies with matt damon it it.

I am continuously baffled as to why people think it was G.W.'s job to react to to the hurricane. His only required action was to tell his staff, "Get to work on this."

The sad truth is, NO ONE was prepared for this disaster, and that goes from White House all the way down to the people on the street. This should serve as a wake-up call for everyone. We constantly hear officials and public service announcements telling us we should have a plan and be prepared.

They're not kidding!

The funniest part is, when that loudmouth was shooting his mouth off, Mike Meyers was standing next to him with a *WTF* look on his face.

Some of these celebrities should really be ashamed.

When disasters like this happen or similar in australia, our government is the first to send help.It is the direct responsibility of your government to send immediate help/aid!
How can people think it is not?
In australia we give help to our mates or who ever needs it,no matter what their colour!!!
I think that the apparently most richest/powerful country took 3 days to act is atrocious to say the least! If it had been a mostly white state, the aid would have been there in an instant!
The people who spoke out,the actors did the right thing. They at least had the guts to say what they believed!
If it happened to you and your family, house, neighborhood, and your government didnt come to help for 3 days, would you be saying the same?

Where in the constitution does it say that it's the job of the Feds to clean up the State government's mess.

Here's the fact, it's the responsibility of the state to call in national guardsmen. The Governor of Louisiana called in only 6000 (WAY too few). It's the responisbility of the state to mandate evactuation, they gave an order, but New Orlean's mayor never enforced it. In fact, three days before the hurricane hit, there were two fleets of busses which if run 24/7 until the hurricane hit probably could've evacuated the entire rest of the city.

Local and State government failed miserably. Federal government was a little slow (for the most obvious reason, there was still a hurrican in the area, and it would be stupid to send them throught it.) but as soon as the Feds set foot in New Orleans, things made a 180, and got better.

If you ask me, the ill-prepared local governments failed the people, while the Feds did a marvelous job. The turnaround was instant when they arrived.

NOBODY should've been in New Orleans when that hurricane hit. That's the worst thing, and you can blame Nagin for that.

Did you even read what that idiot West said? "They were ordered to shoot us!" That's a damned joke, and very offensive. Speaking out? Pfft, he's a fool.

Unfortunately, the time between request and arrival was way too long.

And, OMG, it looks like the President might agree with me. Brown has been removed from heading the Katrina recovery effort.

Of course, the beauty of our system of government is that everyone is allowed to speak out, even those who disagree with you.

The constitution doesn't protect slander.

To say "They were ordered to shoot us." is a bold faced slandeous lie. Frankly, it's not protected speech. Allthough my opinion that he is a fool is.

Funny how you'd praise his illegal and irresponsible slander, but criticize my legitimate criticism of it.
