Anyway. What I don't understand, is that if the anyone on the ship can beam to any part of the ship, then why do they walk? Example, when Janeway leaves the bridge to go to Sick Bay, she always walks. Why can't they just beam to a certain location? It's a very big ship you know.

But it's like love or hate, now is that real or fake?
Cause it's a real thin line, but that's your choice to make.
The question at hand, help me understand, is this your plan?
I think I can, can I think, then I think I can.

i would assume that if the doc walked through a forcefield while holding a tricorder, a gap just big enough in the forcefield would open for the object. and, well they just don't go through the floor!

lol but when he's going through the forcefields, if there is a hole or gap for the wadeva he's holding on to to go through the person behind the forcefield can use tt to his advantage and escape isn't it

if there are no holoemitters like outside sickbay, when the doc puts his arm outside, tt part of his arm would disappear... its more likely tt the emitter in sickbay, project him with his two feet on the floor and he's supposed to be like humans isn't it, so he walks on the floor just like everyone else... wait, i'm confusing myself

how would the person use it to his/her advantage for a hole as big as a tricorder? it would only open for a second, long enough for the object to pass through the forcefield.

Since the Doctor is made up of photons and forcefields, he can extend his own forcefield over the object he is holding and carry it through with him.

The doctor is a grouping of luminesant photons progected inside a force field. This force field is what makes him feel real, and also allows him to interact with his surroundings. He is a progection that is controlled by the computer. So, if he is holding a tricorder and has to walk through a forcefield, since the computer is controlling his actions as well as the forcefield he has to walk through, it can bend the forcefield at the same time he walks through it. Since it molds around the tricorder, nothing can get in or out, not even air.

Well, it's interesting that the doctor can grab something but when somebody slaps him their hand goes through him. I think it was explained in one episode but I can't remember.

That was from way back near the beginning of the series. Tom Paris was confused as to how the doctor worked. The doctor smacked him to show that he was able to feel real, and therefore was able to manipulate things around him. He then pressed a few buttons and invited Tom to hit him, which tom did with enthusiasim. Tom's hand passed through the doctor's head, demonstrating that the doctor could also be nothing more than a visual projection with no real substance.
