PostThu May 30, 2002 11:36 pm    Dark Matter - Quiz

First, of all what is it?

Second, does it exist?

Third, can we use it to our advantage (If it exists)?

Most people don't want to talk about this but, it is very interesting to talk about from a scientific standpoint. Anyone who can answere these please feel free. I would love to hear from you and I would love to compare my knowledge with yours!

Thx!

dark matter is just a theory for all we know so far. it is the tangible absence of matter( space being non tangible). it is believed that the only raw source of dark matter is in the core of a black hole. we today cannot harvest it, because whatever goes down the hole, turns into pure energy- such as warp 10. no craft invented by man is able to withstand that great of pressure.

if i am wrong in any sence, please contact me on the matter.

We'll never be able to harvest it, if even existing. A black hole's power, also in theory, is too incredible for human's to fathom. Unless a piece of material comes in our grasp that would negate the effects of a black hole, we won't even be able to begin to explore a black hole.

As far as I know what is reffered to as "dark matter" is actually something accounting for the unexplained difference between what the wieght of the univeerse is and what it should be from our observations. It may (for example in form of "dark stars" which is a recent theory) or may not exist.

"Negate" the deformation of spacetime by the black hole? Of course a superconductor could perhaps negate the gravitation in this case (this ability of superconductors is also a recent development) but I do not know how it will affect time in this case. May do something nasty. In general, it is impossible to reetrieve material from a singulary because among other things time stops completely inside it.

On the contrary, we have no idea what we will be able to do. A Trek Example is the Romulans. They harvest energy from a mirco sigularity. Supercondercuters are promising but are hard to stabalise with out putting out tremondus amounts of energy. As of yet, they are feasible.
