Could someone tell me what the different colour's on the uniforms mean???...red...yellow...green....
I guess green must be the medical staff......
I used to think that yellow was for the security staff....but then why does engineering wear it too???...
and what abou red....the Cap'n...Commander...and maybe the helm crew???

I always thought that it was
Red=Command. (This includes helm, the main control of the ship)
Yellow=Opperations (Opps, security, engeneering are all vital areas of opperations for a starship)
Blue=Science officers(Science also includes sickbay, medical science you see.)
What was meant by the time you watch? Well in the origional series the Red and yellow uniforms were the other way around thats all.
Yellow=Command.
Red=Opperations
See ya

Since Generation's air, it's been the Command scheme we all know. I wonder during what part of the series did they keep switching the uniform and not the color. Like Picard's open jacket

Red is the command staff and crew, like the brdige officers, yellow is security and engineering, and blue is medical.

So, if red is the color of command, does that mean the pilot is also a command position? What is mean is that... in Voyager, is Paris part of the command staff or is he a command officer too?

Actually they are black with a grey belt at the neck. But at the wrist and with the neck are still the colors Yellow, Red and Blue.

In the 23rd century:
Yellow = Command (this means that anyone who would choose commanding a ship as their ultimate goal would wear this color, though they may not reach that goal...)
Red = Engineering, Tactical and Operations (though someone wearing these colors might achieve the rank of Captain, like Montgomery Scott, they would not be a Captain of ships, but of their respective departments.
Blue = Medical and Sciences.
In the 24th century:
Red = Command
Yellow = Operations, Tactical and Engineering
Blue = Sciences and Medical
Picard's alternate uniform, the Blue/Grey tunic with Red leather jacket was more of a dress uniform which showed that Starfleet wasn't strictly relegated to wearing one uniform only. It was also more comfortable than the dress uniforms.
This continues to apply to DS9 and Voyager type uniforms, with the colors on the shoulders and a purplish grey tunic. In First Contact, the black with grey shoulders and department colored tunics were introduced. If you look closely you can see a color band around the wrists which also denotes their department (this uniform was later used in DS9 also). In Insurrection, they introduced the white dress uniforms, where the captain was the only officer whose uniform color differed from the rest with a white front instead of grey.
Red signifies

I think what is meant by green in the original being command is the sleeveless olive green wrap around Captain Kirk occasionally wore.

At least he's a senior officer.. I think he'd take over the Bridge if anything happened to Janeawy, Chakotay amd Tuvok...
I sadly don't know what that makes him.. A commanding officer I guess
