So, the new Trek movie is awesome, hands-down, and now they're looking into doing a sequel.

Paramount Pictures is moving forward with development on a Star Trek sequel, hiring Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof to pen the screenplay. Lindelof produced the first film but has been brought on to reteam with Kurtzman and Orci, with whom he is currently co-scripting DreamWorks Cowboys and Aliens. Kurtzman told Variety that they will wait to see what fan reaction is to the first film, which hits theaters on May 8th, before proceeding.
Quote: | Obviously we discussed ideas, but we are waiting to see how audiences respond next month, he said. With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin. But with a second, you have the opportunity to explore incredibly exciting things. Well be ambitious about what well do. |
They are hoping to have a completed script by Christmas, which would likely mean a summer 2011 release. No decision has been made yet on whether JJ Abrams will return to direct, but he will at least produce.
Of course, the writing deal announcement doesnt guarantee a green light. If the film somehow underperforms, the sequel wont happen. It seems like Paramount thinks they have a huge hit in their hands. The studio is holding the films premiere more than a month before the films domestic release, which is certainly a vote of confidence.

So, what do you guys think about a sequel, and what might be some good plot ideas?

Well now...I ain't too worried about that happening lol!
Anywho, as to a sequel...I think most Trek fans will be expecting one after this awesome movie release. I was just telling T on Saturday that it was on the news that night that this Star Trek has sold out in numerous locations already and it has been reported that if this keeps up it could do better than any other Star Trek movie release...better than any other?! Thats amazing!!! As for the entire staff, that is the exact same staff from this one is it not (sorry, I'm bad at paying attention to that), as long as it is the same staff I predict great things from a sequel so long as Abrams directs (or at least produces)...I think he has taken Star Trek in a bold new direction by going back and re-energized a fan base that has honestly...somewhat dwindled over the years. Plot ideas huh??? Hmm...I honestly can't think of anything to top this one, lol, but thats just me...perhaps something to do with the Klingons??? I even saw a YouTube video from that Shatner channel saying that he would even be happy to be in a sequel to this movie...so perhaps something with bringing back Kirk and Spock, I mean after all this is the Trek universe...NOTHING has boundaries lol! Anyways...thats my take on the situation, and as always...long live star trek!

Well I think they were pretty ambitious with the first one as well. If the sequel is anything like what I just watched I'm extremely excited!

I think the Sequel will be good. I ove Star Wars, but if I had to give up every Star wars prequel I would just to have this one movie in my DvD collection. So i think the sequel will be good even if it is only have as good as the first one (Star Trek XI).
