PostWed Apr 22, 2009 1:06 am    [Provisional-RPG] USS Endeavor Game

I've been thinking, and I have decided I want to create a game, basically like DSG, but easier to navigate and more open. Here's the setting:

We, as the crew of the Starship Endeavor, NCC-13291, are the Federation's first attempt at a full transwarp (9.99999999...) ship. This crew is specially trained to both deal with Omega along our way, and to follow the mission for all of Starfleet: To seek out new worlds and explore space.

I am your commanding officer. My name is Admiral Jordan Delmont. As far as the game goes, Forum Rank is non-existant. Anybody may join as a Crewman, as for the higher ranks you will have to clear that with me. I do give promotions, but don't hold your breath. Also, please ask me about any plot twists or characters. As soon as I get more players, I will begin the first episodes' conclusion. All basics still apply: god-modding, spamming, controlling other player's characters, etc. are prohibited. Have fun and I'll start work on the episode soon.

Events:
Deployment of the first Federation transwarp ship

"Captain on the bridge!" declared Lt. Carman.
"At ease," said Admiral Delmont. "Helm, clear our course with DS11 and prepare full thrusters."
"Ops has cleared us, Admiral."
"Engage."
The USS Endeavor sped away from Deep Space 11, getting ready to engage the first transwarp drive ever developed by anyone in the Alpha, Beta, or Gamma Quadrants. Needless to say, this was a very exciting moment in Federation history. However, with Starfleet's best pilot, Ensign James McCormac, manning the conn, nobody was afraid to accelerate.
"Delmont to Engineering. Is the transwarp drive ready?"
It's ready now," replied Sub-Commander T'venna.
"Etsaa, put me through to the rest of the ship."
"Yes, Admiral."
"We are the finest Starfleet has to offer. We are here today because of that," began Admiral Delmont. "No other crew is capable of running this ship as well as us. All 282 of you have made great sacrifices to be on this ship. Our names will be set in the history of the Federation forever. We are few. We are elite. We. Are. Endeavor!
"McCormac. Let's light this candle. Maximum transwarp on my mark."
Here we go. "Engage."

TO BE CONTINUED...

In Captains Quarters, USS Endeavor

Lieutenant Etsaa and the captain are chatting about the day, a habit they made at Starfleet Academy.

"Well, Jordan," said Etsaa,"Your start-of-mission speech was quite good, but you really should have led up to it."
"'Led up to it'?"
"Starting that speech with 'You are the best Starfleet has to offer' is kind of cheesy."
"Cheesy? Really? I was thinking Promethian!"
(Over Comm)"Admiral Delmont to the Bridge"
Delmont taps his black and red combadge and replies,"On my way."

On the Bridge, USS Endeavor
"You called."
"Yes, Admiral. We have found a reading of Omega."
"What? We just got out of mapped space 20 minutes ago! Are you pulling my leg, McCormac?"
"I am at a loss for an explanation aswell, sir."
"We can't get 20 goddamn lightyears away from the Federation and already we have to deal with Omega?"
"It appears so, sir."
Delmont sighed. "Change our course."
"Aye, sir."
Admiral Delmont returned to his quarters and released the foulest stream of
language Etsaa had ever heard.

"Ah, do you hear alarm bells ringing again, Captain?" - Drat the Ferengi waltzed onto the bridge. - "They tell you: Profit, profit, profit! Stay on your toes! Now I know what you're gonna say, what is your trusted financial ambassador doing on the Bridge, putting his precious self into harm's way with such obvious disregard for himself? Well of course so that the Federation can rest assured: they will not go bankrupt! You see Omega as a threat, it's understandable, your inbred Starfleet officials have taught you well, but let me put this in the wider scope of the good of the common men...just think of the new schools, better teachers -not that inbred junk that told you to destroy perfectly good business opportunities- why, the whole quadrant could benefit from a deal of such magnitude, and you yourself shall always be remembered as the future admiral, who was made hilariously high profit on selling the Omega! Well?"
Drat's smile was as guileless as a new-born baby's.

"Drat!? How the hell did you get onto the Endeavor? We locked down hours ago!", said the Admiral. "And why the sudden interest in Omega? The Ferengi know as well as any other Federation species what happened 19 years ago at Outpost 22. Total obliteration, subspace collapse? The Endeavor might be capable of transwarp, but we can't take an explosion that big.
"McCormac, how far are we from that reading?"
"Eleven light-years, sir," the Ensign replied.
Maintain course and speed. You have the bridge, McCormac."

"Oh I can still hear Admiral Janeway's worried voice in my head: Don't let any harm come to the Endeavor, Drat, I'm counting on you!" -Drat assumes the posture of the hero. "Never fear, my dear Admiral, for I shall never forsake you! And the admiral said: Oh Drat, I told you to call me Kathy when we're just the two of us here... in my quarters... under the..khmm, anyway, a gentleman never tells. What I'm trying to say is: Ha-ha-ha! WHy should the nice Omega explode? I'm sure dear Etzaa's capable hands will not tremble when we secure it in our hold. Now why doesn't Mr. McCormack steer this sweet little ship with its cargo bay hatch right to the nice Omega and we can be out of here? I did promise Kathy, I mean the Admiral a nice romantic dinner under the four moons of Valusia Prime..."
Drat goes right in front of the main screen: "Well, Mr. McCormack, chop-chop, I know a very interested, and might I add ludicrously wealthy laboratory waiting with just the most secure place for a nice shipload of Omega. Captain? Engage? Full speed? Vive le France?"

Admiral Delmont walks on to the bridge

"Trying to control my ship with bribery, Drat? Do I have to court-martial you? Again? And a note for you: there is only a single person who can operate the most powerful Federation starship in history. That ship is the Endeavor, and that person is me. I see you require a demonstration.
"Computer, lock replicator privileges in quarters 2 Beta for one week, authorization code Delmont-theta-4, and secure with protocol gamma ten.
Get used to food from the galley, Drat."

Drat completely appalled: Have I ever talked about bribery, Admiral? I urged Mr. McCormack to go on, fulfill your mission... Have I made any indecent proposals to give him money for that, have I, Mr. helmsman?
McCormack shrugs loking at the Admiral.
Now I hate to disappoint you Admiral, but here is my letter ofrecommendation from High Command and my contract signed by all the necessary officials. I am truly to be the Business Ambassador of this little enterprise, with all rights to negotiate Federation interests with other races and to exploit business opportunities, wherever I se the promise for it. Such as this one, here.
Now I know you are fresh to command and a bit over zealous, but taking control of a crewman's, let alone official's just privileges for...well, I really don't see any real offence that I have done... might raise some eyebrows of the crew. They might be afraid you were being someone I've once read about in Human literature...Captain Bligh? Does the name sound familiar to you? Now I am a magnanimous person, I will not file this into my first personal report back to Starfleet Command, since I am your whole hearted supporter on this mission. I'm just worried about reactions from the crew. Mr McCormack here... he has a spot on his uniform, is he going to walk the plank? Just kidding, helmsman, as you were, son...
Drat makes a show of calming everyone on bridge, who do start looking curiously at the Admiral.

"Hmm. Official enough. And I assure you, Drat, that I didn't get to be an Admiral by being staying green. Ever heard of the Kelvin? Enterprise V? USS Apocalypse? I served on them all. The most legendary ships in his-"
"Captain! 29 heavily armored ships just decloaked around us and are firing weapons!"
"Computer, bring weapons online using codes Delmont-alpha-1, Delmont-alpha-2, and Delmont-alpha-3-omega! Confirm with protocol Victor Victor Tango!"
Computer: "Rapid fire phasers, quantum torpedoes, and omega-based plasma cannons online.

Computer, lock on all ships and fire!" the Admiral said.
A series of satisfying 'foom's and explosions could be heard.
"C-C-Captain...," stuttered James McCormac. "Why didn't you tell us?"
"Computer, re-lock all weapons, authorization code Delmont-beta-1."
Computer: "All weapons are now locked."
"I couldn't tell you because those are classified weapons. The only reason I used them now is because the ship couldn't have taken down 29 ships that heavily armored alone without them. I'm sorry for not telling you, but even Admirals have to follow Starfleet orders. Drat, I can see you about to blow up over there. What is it?

Adddmirall... with all due respect, the finger glued to the fire button tactic has been an antique since the Klingon wars. How do you expect me to fulfil my mission to Starfleet as the Business Ambassador if at the first sign of foreign ships you fire at Will? and at John and Sam, and whoever else was on those ships? Maybe instead of the gun barrel, you should open hailing frequencies for a change and let me smooth the roughed feathers. The shields could take some beating and in the meantime I would have made them an offer, how do you say...they couldn't refuse... All I'm saying is let's use the enhanced capacities of this ship to the fullest...in the name of peace. Talk leads to peace. And peace is the humus of business. Aaaaah, can you smell that freshly tilled earth, Admiral? - he sighs in pleasure, then hesitates- of course now you can't cuz you blasted the whole field with apocalypse weapons... but.. you get my point. Just give me a chance next time ok? Sir.

"Yes, Drat, I'm sure that you could have made peace with an unknown ship that attacks without provocation. And you may have noticed that your Starfleet rank is Crewman, and mine is Admiral. That means that I run this ship however I see fit.
McCormac, Whats the distance to the Omega reading?"
"We are one lightyear from the reading, sir."

I'm sorry I have to disagree, dear Admiral, Business Ambassador, remember? Given full authority by the Federation, and may I say: out of Starfleet jurisdiction... which means I am not someone you can command about like a common grunt, but of course these are details I hate to bring up, since rather than pulling ranks and engaging in useless debates, I am here solely to make your job -which I have to say you do wonderfully, of course- a little easier, as my so limited capabilities allow... And of course I would never dream of disputing that you run your ship in any other way than your capable mind sees fit, Admiral, why, I resent that accusation. But why do you put me in a position to have to remind you of the benevolent force that the Federation would like to project to the whole galaxy? Peace, above all. If every captain charged into unknown terrirory busting heads like an ogre, we could probably sit in a pub and sing brave drinking songs with the Klingons, while everyone else was leaving, do you catch my drift? These nice little ships...well let's say pretty wreckages now... may have seen the same Omega threat you did, and wanted to protect the site from collapsing onto itself if some unknown alien race came barging in over it. A statement of no hostile intentions here, a little small-talk there, and all the ruffled feathers would have smoothened out... whereas now we face the righteous wrath of a people we don't even know! Please, Admiral...let me help you. Let me do the job the Federation sent me to do: if I have to put it so plainly, so be it: that job is to temper you and assure ...peace. Check back to Headquarters if my words are not enough to satisfy you.

"Ah, Drat. Forget to brush up on Starfleet politics? Section 1882, subsection 9, paragraph 2, verse 11. 'Any Starfleet officer meeting the criteria of commanding a flagship or exceeding the rank or equvilancy of Captain is given full authority over Federation matters arising on the ship which said officer commands, including activities of non-Starfleet officials.' Since you, Drat, are part of the Federation, and I meet both criteria, I am well within my rights to order you about. But your right, this is no time to squabble pointlessly.
"To be honest, ordering people around is how I maintain my standing. Speaking of which..." The Admiral taps his combadge. "Commander Haanu, please report to the Captains quarters immediately."
"On my way, sir."

"Do these most handsome ears of mine tell you anything, Admiral? Or this dashing smile" - Drat smiles handsomely. "Ferengi here, not part of the Federation. I am here at special requests. So I will have my due replicator rations back, thank you. In fact, I am about to indulge in them, so if you don't mind, I shall retire to my quarters. Don't hesitate to call of you need me!" - doing a little pirouette, Drat struts out of the Bridge with a smile on his face.

Hmm... Alright, I'll give him his replicator privilages...

"Computer, restore replicator privilages to room 2 Beta, authorization Delmont-Theta-4, secure with protocol Gamma 11."
Computer: Replicator Unlocked.
"Alter sonic shower to a pitch of 113, frequency 22000."
Computer: Warning: That frequency is beyond the hearing range of humans.
"Override."
Computer: Sonic shower altered.
"Admiral, that frequency causes mild headaches in Ferengi," said Ensign McCormac.
"Indeed it does, Ensign. Indeed it does."
Computer: Aproaching Omega reading.
"I hope this works as well as I've heard. Computer, emit a deflector pulse at frequency 714.19332 for 11 seconds, authorization Delmont Omega 1.
Computer: Emitting pulse.
Computer: Deflector dish failing.
"Well, I'll take that as a no..."
Just then, Commander Haanu walked onto the bridge.
"You needed me, sir?"
"Actually," the Admiral said, "I was going to ask you to have coffee with me while we discuss shuttle updgrades. However, there is now a much more pressing matter. The deflector dish just went out. I need you to go down and fix it."
"Yes, sir," replied Haanu.
"Computer, transport Commander James Haanu to Deflector Control
Station, authorization Theta-Nu."
Haanu was whisked away...

"So the sonic shower in the Admiral's quarters IS better than the regular one" - Drat sighs contentedly as he exits Delmont's quarters with a towel on his shoulder. "It almost makes me wish I had hair like the humaans..."
Crewman Adams just turns the corner, they face each other...
"Oh...hehehe... Crewman Adams... I was just checking the sonic shower in the Admiral's quarters... seems there's a slight malfunction in mine, I was worried the Admiral might have the same problem... But it works perfectly, not to worry!" - Drat pats Adams' shoulder reassuringly. - "At ease..."
"Oh I know what happened on the Bridge, I just wonder you knew about it too" - Adams smiles. "And I can put the pieces together of what happened here" - he smirks under his nose. "Listen, some of us were quite put out at the way the Admiral has been treating you just because you're a Ferengi. A high ranking officer should show more tolerance, or I wonder what he'll do to us too, given the situation... Don't worry, your secret's safe with me. Just how did you get past all the security locks on the Admiral's quarters?"
"Oh, you know... a professional showman never gives away his secrets. Otherwise he will not be able to delight his audience next time" - Drat smiles with true warmth. - "And thank you for the trust, I expect you for a drink in the mess hall after your shift is done, Mr. Adams."
"Call me Eric" - the man shakes hands with Drat. "I'm headed for astrometrics, care to join me?"
"By all means, let's meet our new friends the Omega" - Drat invites Eric to show the way.

...and rematerialized in Deflector control.
"Goddamn these wires..." he said. "Why can't the Admiral make the computer fix this? It already runs every system on the ship! And why even have a crew? If we even make it out of here alive, what could this ship be used o-"

"Admiral! A circuit in Deflector Control just exploded!"
"Life signs?"
"Negative."
"Then put up force fields!"
"Explosion contained. What could have caused that?"
"Lets find out. Computer, were there any errors in Deflector control 32 seconds ago?"
Computer: Negative.
"Any unauthorized systems access?
Computer: Affirmative.
"In deflector control?"
Computer: Negative.
"I have a feeling that explosion wasn't Haanus fault. Computer, where did unauthorized access occur?
Computer: Quarters Alpha One.
"Drat..." the Admiral muttered.
"Computer, beam Admiral Jordan Delmont and Hororary Ambassador Drat to Brig Cell 1, authorization Theta-Nu."

"Drat...

"Admiral, I am afraid I must level with you..." - Drat greets him in a lowered voice. "Before you even begin to think... don't. That was an attempt on the ship itself. A-ah, don't... Nobody can hear us here. I have anticipated your move and chosen this spot to finally reveal my purpose here. The ship is going to get hijacked. Well, it was... until they blew up the wrong guy. You see, Haanu was supposed to say he had difficulties, have you beamed down and blown you up in what would look like a deflector power-grid accident, which would also render the ship defenseless. I was chosen for this mission not as a Business Ambassador..but as your bodyguard. I was the perfect candidate... I mean: who would suspect a Ferengi? But... - and Drat unceremoniously gets the Admiral into a Nuitarian submission-hold that has the man gasping for air, and before he can even utter a sound pushes a small remote and materializes a cup of soothingly warm Bajorian herbal tea in his hand. "For you, Admiral... helps absorb the shock. You see I am quite capable physically, and also very ingenious in technological puzzles. How did he replicate it in his hand, you ask? I cannot tell you that. But what I CAN and have orders to tell you is this: look for members of a conspiracy. Haanu was vice-leader, this is as much as our special intelligence could gather. He was on his way to sabotage the deflectors. There's another fleet of cloaked vessels nearby. Where, we don't know. I put Haanu out of action and made it look as if I was showering and inadvertantly caused an accident. It was the only way to keep his cronies unsuspecting. I will fill you in with other details in due time. Now I hear our time is up..."
Drat releases the Admiral and by the time security arrives to the cell Delmont is sipping a mug of steaming tea, looking down impassively at the Ferengi and Drat is on his knees wailing:
"YOu gotta believe me, Admiral, I had nothing to do with it!"

"Computer, initiate emergency code Mu, Target Honorary Ambassador Drat!"
With a flash of light, Drat fell to the floor, unconcious.
The Admiral walked out of the cell, then said, "Erect level 11 force field and disable all systems access in Brig cell 1. Destroy all non-living items in that cell aswell. And relpicate a prison uniform to fit a Ferengi.

Computer: Commands being proccessed.

As the Admiral goes away, Drat gets up, dusts himself off. "Good thing I thought of the Admiral's temper and disabled the power of Mu over my body, leaving only the light show, but all the rest is a mess. I'll give him time to sort things through in his mind. Hey, brig officer, you might wanna replace the bed our Admiral destroyed in his rampage, and maybe give me some clothes, unless you like the view" - he smiles, displaying his naked body.
The brig officer blushes and hands him a brand new uniform.
"Sorry man, I dunno what's wrong with him. When we left port he seemed an ok guy. And I wonder what he meant by prison uniform."
"How about you make me a nice striped one like in the mid 20th century Earth, so I'd look like a sailor?" - Drat grins. And about Delmont, I'm sure he's just distracted by all his work" - Drat shrugs. - "You wanna play a round of chess?"
"Sure" - the officer says putting the holographic board near the cell. - "You tell me your move and I'll make it."
"By the way, I'm Drat. Nice to meet you."
"Joey. Joey de Mayo."

"Computer, has the analysis on those ships been completed?"
Computer: Affirmative. The ships were Macedonian warships, Kintzz-Sha class.
"Well, warships. Yeah... I have to go down, don't I? Don't answer."

"Computer, how long untill the weapons under code alpha-31 destabilize?"
Computer: No weapons under that call code exist. Please restate your query under a correct weapons code.
"Override with authorization beta-tango-11 and restate."
Computer: Weapons found. The Omega cannons will destabilize in 22 days, 13 hours, 38 minutes and 12 seconds.
"That's what you get with experimental weaponry. How long will it take to get back to starbase to have them restablized at current maximum warp?"
Computer: At warp 9.992, it will take 22 days, 13 hours, 38 minutes and 9 seconds to reach Starbase 118.
"Wonderful. Just wonderful. Is there any way to get our core repaired fast enough to make it back in time?
Computer: If transwarp capabilities are restored, the Endeavor will be able to return to Starbase 118 with 1 day and 12 hours to spare.
"I'm... uh... I dont have to much of a choice besides goin down there to negotiate, do I?"
Computer: There are two options as of this time: Negotiate the restoration of power to the USS Endeavor, or allow 1/2 of the Gamma quadrant to be destroyed with subspace travel unaccessable throughout the Gamma quadrant and 12.11834 percent of the Beta quadrant.
"Well then, I guess I'm going down. Computer, who is most qualified to negotiate with this race?"
Computer: Honorary Business Ambassador Drat.
"What? Absolutely not! Who is second most qualified?"
Computer: There are no other personell authorized to enage in negotiations with non-Federation species besides Honorary Ambassador Drat and Admiral Jordan Delmont.
"Fine. I just hope I won't regret this. Computer, restore communication privalages to Ambassador Drat and send a request for assistance. Destination: Shuttlebay 4, the Katana."

Admiral, such a pleasant surprise! Why, this humble Ferengi is all bows and congratulations! I am sure glad we can finally put this terrible misunderstanding behind us. I know what you're going to say, so let me cut you off right there and assure you: there is no need to apologise, we both said a whole lotta hooey in the heat of the moment, my beautiful and quite delicate ears are just as red as yours... Oh, is that the red light from the launch site? I understand, well that was my mistake. And let me just say I will back you 100%, with interest, in this, ... if you'll excuse the play of words... "Endeavor" to persuade the nice aliens of our noble intents. Why, this will be such a noble away-endeavor, they'll never know what hit them! I hope you packed the photonic cannon... you didn't? I mean that's good... we... wouldn't want them to make the wrong impression, nooo. So I'll just press this little button here, and off we go... wait, I know that look, don't tell me. I've rushed into things again, haven't I? How thoughtless of me, of course you will want to check on pressure-valves, clearance, and talk to the nice computer. I'll be here in the corner as silent as dried-up well in the middle of the night. Unless of course you want me to make some noise, you just say the word and... ok I see, right. Quiet...

"Very astute, Drat. And I certainly do hope we can put our... uhh... skirmishes... behind us. Alright then... Computer, run pre-launch program Delmont-Theta-7. Oh, and Drat, a little further apology for you... Computer, interface with the main computer and make the following changes to the protocol subroutines: First, restore all privalages to Honorary Ambassador Drat, set the sonic shower to a frequency of 1800 hertz with the magnetic cleanser enabled. Finally, give Ambassador Drat full systems access to everything other than critical and protocol systems. Close protocol and interface systems.
"Drat, I trust you. I've been thinking about what you said, and I believe you. Of course, the criticals have to stay restricted as a precaution. Oh, and if you ever get bored, feel free to give the new panel layout I made for you a spin. Total access to the library, music and video files, and it's all in Ferengi. For ease of use, of course. It's under file
gamma-4." I see preflight checks are over. Down we go, I guess....

"All right, all right, I confess. I don't know what I did, but I did it. Just stop, I can't take it anymore!" Those were the famous words of my even more famous ancestor Quark, to Odo, and if I didn't know you better, Admiral, I might be inclined to repeat them to you. Fortunately for me I know your heart is true and so your benevolence shines like a bright star upon the whole crew and this modest Ferengi. When we get back, I'll have to make a small detour to your shower and take out the Solicidic Stinkofungus from... ehh.. your showerhead... which, khmm.. I've accidentally put there for reasons I cannot now comprehend... don't look at me like that, sir, it will be as clean as a whistle in notime, I'll even whistle "Black Hole Sun" on it for your entertainment if you'd like, just to show there's no hard feelings, how's that sound? Oh look, fortunately we're hailed by the nice alien ship. Did I say fortunately? I meant fortunately for them, of course. Do we land in that big hole they must laughingly call the hangar maybe? I wonder if they would be interested in some pneumatic sliding doors on that thing, I know my grandfather Nog would be more than happy to help them out with this ridiculous little fiasco they regard their landing pad... Believe me, Admiral, before we leave here they will be kissing our hands and waving their handkerchiefs at us. Well the doors are being depressurised. Shall we? I say let's shall... of course at your command!
