PostTue Jun 03, 2008 10:07 pm    Insurrection - 2020

After 12 years of annoying Democratic presidents doing things like opening the North American Free Trade agreement, and several bad Conservative decisions in Canada, several states and provinces chose to opt out of either large country.
The U.S. only lost three states, Washington, Alaska and Oregon. While Canada gave up British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon Territory.
The 3 states, 2 provinces, and territory decided that, based on their' geographical positioning, they should assist in defending eachother.
However, each province, state, or territory only had a few resources. Together, however, they controlled a large portion of north America's oil, coal, and water. It was not long before the remainder of Canada and the U.S. were rather... miffed.
However, they were not considering how nearly impossible it is to attack over the rockies in such a manner.
Especially since California, and several other states deserted the U.S. to join mexico, hoping to have a slightly less governed lifestyle.
Sitting, carefully in a room, in the back of a small cafe, was a retired Canadian Helicopter pilot.
He was only retired in the word canadian, as he still flew helicopters.
However, it was not an out of date seahawk this pilot flew. For the Washington State government had lent out a few better quality helicopters.
The Canadian Military, however, was not co-operating with the American government, and did not have such perks.

The Sea Shanty Cloverdale district, Surrey, British Columbia
Thomas sighed, as he settled into his seat. He remembered this restaurant, when it first opened, 13 years ago. At the time, he had been working as a Cashier at the local Musky station just a few blocks away.
Now he was about 80 kilometres south-east of his launch pad in Richmond, and had arrived not by bicycle, as he had in these days, but by parking his Commanche V in the rear parking lot.
He nodded to the now 60-something year old and now-widowed owner of the restaurant.
"Lisa." He said, nodding.
It was a rare Thursday when he didn't show up. He was expected.
She nodded to him.
"Thomas. I see you still haven't bothered to get a car." She said with a much lighter chinese accent then what she originally had 13 years before.
He laughed.
"The skimmer runs on electricity, and it's a sunny day, so leaving it parked there is recharging my fuel tank. Besides, the chaps in Victoria want me to be able to get into that thing, and en route in 20 minutes or less. Have you SEEN the traffic in the Massey Tunnel lately?" Thomas asked.
Lisa laughed, and nodded.
"According to the traffic reports, they haven't cleared the last 13 out yet, ever since the police force was mobilized to handle that water-landing in the Richmond shipping ports." Lisa said, looking down.
"Yup. If I hadn't had my commanche with me when I was at the laundromat, I wouldn't have made it in time to give them a hand, either." He replied, as he sat down.
Lisa poured his coffee, and laughed, shaking her head.
"Thomas, do you use that thing as a personal car?" She asked.
He nodded.
"It's got an Mp6 player, and it's wired directly into Defencenet's connection to the web. You think I'm going to pass up a 3 terrabyte per second connection? Do you KNOW how well old Alan Jackson songs buffer with that kind of speed? I can cruise that thing to almost 300 kilometres an hour, without it skipping." He replied.
She shook her head.
"Where did you keep your' laundry basket?" She asked.
He shrugged.
"I loaded it in one of the empty missile bays." He said, nonchalantly.
She frowned, and sighed.
"And if you had been called to fight, and your' ship's AI didn't notice the difference?" She asked.
"Would depend on when it happened. After the trip to the laundromat? I would fire a blank. Before? Well... my gym socks make a pretty deadly weapon, so I don't know..." He trailed off.
She laughed a little, shook her head, and nodded at the menu.
"The usual, or are you going to take a peek at the menu?" She asked.
He shook his head.
"Just the usual."
She nodded.
The Display panel built into the wall flickered on, and it showed something that almost looked familiar, except that it was on fire, and had large craters in the runway.
"This just in. We've got reports of Japanese bombers launching from their' new base in Nanaimo. Ever since they took control of most of the Island, they've been massively moving aircraft to their' bases there, and in Duncan. This is just a single glimpse at it, but yes, They have destroyed Vancouver Defence Airport." The reporter said.
"*beep*!" Thomas exclaimed.
Lisa glowered at the display.
"Looks like it'll have to wait a little while." He said.
She simply nodded, and watched him dash out the door, and hop into the small hover-craft((It was not quite correct to call the commanche a Helicopter. It didn't fly high enough, and it could maneuvre better.)), and take off.

Commanche White Raven En route to Vancouver Defence Airport
The Commanche blasted across the farmlands, and over Provincial Highway 10 at speeds that the highway had not seen in quite a while.
"Multiple Aircraft inbound. Recognized as local military forces." The on-board AI said softly.
"Vehicle description and call signs please, Lauren." Thomas asked the AI.
It played a soft affirmative chime, and began reading the plane's ID tags.
"4 retrofitted crop dusters. IDs aren't electronically tagged. It's estimated that the vehicles aren't uplinked into DefenceNet, and you may have to use the CB Radio to contact the pilots." The AI said softly.
Thomas nodded, and tuned the microphone to CB Radio frequencies known to be used by local forces.
"This is the British Columbian Commanche Defence Skimmer White Raven to the Civilian Defence forces heading North-West. My DefenceNet connection is down, you guys mind relaying the news?" Thomas asked.
"Roger that, White Raven, This is the Cloverdale District aero-defence force. We've got reports of Japanese bombers and fighters inbound. They've already levelled YVR." A voice came over the headset.
"Roger that, Cloverdale Task force. I'm taking point... try and keep up." Thomas said, as he upped his throttle a bit.
"Try and keep up? These babies might be old but they ain't slow." Came an amused voice.
Thomas grinned, as he noted their' current speed was at 300 kilometres an hour. And that was as fast as they went.
Buckling up his seat belt, he torqued the throttle all the way forward.
The Commanche shot forward at nearly 450 kilometres an hour, and still accelerated.
"Show off." Another voice came over the radio.
Thomas backed off the throttle, comming up perfectly in formation turning the four-plane formation into a V shape.
"I said I was taking point." Thomas said with a laugh.
"He did, Al. And that Laser-gun thingy he's got CAN fire 360 degrees." The first voice said over the radio.
"He's still a show off" The Second voice retorted.
"And I'm the ranking DefenceNet officer. So can it." Thomas instructed.
Silence followed the air, and no one argued the point. After all, they were flying antiques with machine guns, and he was flying a semi-state-of-the-art skimmer with laser weaponry, and a magnetic repulsion field, neatly deflecting any metallic particles.
"I've got bogeys incomming on my radar." Thomas said into the helmet.
"You've got a RADAR in that thing?" 'Al' asked.
Thomas laughed.
"Incomming, north, by north east. I count four." Thomas said, growling.
"Yippee Kayee, I'm goin' in!" the first voice exclaimed.
"Roger that Cloverdale Taskforce, ID tags confirmed as Japanese aircraft. Fly in high, and weapons hot. I'm dropping down, and prepping to be too low for them, in hopes of either getting them in a bad position, when they are attacking you, or putting them in a bad position, by getting them to try me. Don't be afraid to let 'er rip." Thomas said.
"Roger that, White Raven. Drop out of formation, and we'll form up on them." The first voice replied.
Torquing the throttle all the way up to max, and resetting the altitude auto-settings for 150 metres, nearly 1/10th of the height the other planes were cruising at, he skimmed down much lower, and faster than the antiques, and began his targetting system scanning.
"4 targets located. 3 fighters, and a bomber." The AI said.
Thomas input 4 tag letters over the aircraft in his tactical display.
"Alright, Lauren. We're targetting in pattern Alpha Delta Gamma Omega. Leave the bomber for last." Thomas instructed.
The AI chimed in acknowledgement.
The first fighter was clearly old, as it fired a volley of machine gun fire at him, which the skimmer's magnetic deflection system repelled easily. He reset the altitude settings, and flew over the straffing fighter, abusing the Magnetic Deflector systems to push the plane down, forcing it to crash into the Fraser River.
"Cloverdale Taskforce, be advised we are down to two fighters and one bomber." Thomas said into the Radio microphone.
"Roger that White Raven. We saw your' little stunt there. Nice shooting." came the Cloverdale Taskforce's apparent leader's voice.
The aircraft being piloted by "Al" took down another fighter which bounced off the Magnetic Deflector system, and into the bomber, causing them both to explode in mid-air.
"Nice." Thomas muttered, noting that this left one fighter.
However, this fighter wasn't playing with antique bullets, like his convoy was. A quick laser-beam struck down one of the Cloverdale Taskforce's planes, and a spray of bullets was deflected neatly out of danger by a similar system to what his commanche was outfitted with.
Thomas grabbed the Targeting Joystick, and swung the laser-cannon towards the last fighter, and fired. The first three shots missed, barely. However, they caused the fighter to make one bad move, into a wildly aimed fourth shot that had been an accidental press of the trigger, as he dropped the Targeting Joystick, so he could get the Commanche to swing around for another shot.
"What a fluke..." Thomas muttered softly.
"10-9, Didn't read you White Raven." Al's voice came through the CB headset.
Thomas laughed.
"You weren't supposed too. You guys better get back to your' local air-strip, I've got to find a new landing pad." Thomas said softly.
but as the Commanche flew back up high enough so that he could see over Richmond's sky-scrapers, he knew that was far from being his main concern.
Richmond was ablaze, and there were 29 incomming fighters, off of an Aircraft Carrier, guarded by 2 nicely armed Japanese naval cruisers.
"You sure you want us to leave you out to your' own?" Al asked.
Thomas muttered a Shushwap curse, and shook his head.
"I'll take that as a no?" came the amused reply.
"Damn straight." Thomas said softly.

Commanche White Raven, Cloverdale Local Airborne Militia Defencive tactical strategy twenty three alpha.

"God damn it, I told you guys to back off. All three of you!" Thomas yelled into the head-set.
"Thomas, there is a new wave of fighters launching from the Nanuchka-II class aircraft carrier to the Starboard." the computer's AI noted.
"Noted, Lauren. Boys, We've got bigger issues." Thomas said into the head-set.
"Roger that, White Raven. Seems that we could use a hand." Al's voice came through the head-set.
"Cloverdale Aero-Defence force, this is Clover3. I've had it, and I'm out of bullets." A voice that hadn't said much yet came over the intercom.
"Thomas, the Aircraft 'Clover3' is plotting a suicide course with the Nanucka-II class Aircraft Carrier to the Starboard. It is likely that the fighters attempting to launch will not be capable of launching in time." The computer's AI said.
"Damnit Al, stop him!" Thomas yelled.
However, a stray laser beam had hit his helicopter.
And had taken out his comm-uplink.
And his Computer's AI core.
"Oh bloody hades." Thomas said softly.
