They had the bun because in the first couple of episodes,they decided they didn't like her hair down. If you get the bonus disc of season one,it says it in the extras.I thought it was alright.

I don't get why everyone makes a huge deal about her hair, I never really cared. I guess if I had to choose, the short hair would be the best and the bn the worst. But why does everyone care?

I didn't care for the bun, it kinda looked "little house on the prairie". I'm glad they toned down on the makeup after the first episode.

I prefered it down also. Apparently, the producers etc were worried about having a female captain and decided to fixate on the hair issue hence the bun.

I liked the long hair, not in a bun really. I suspect the real reason for the wig was to add femininity to the show and then once they had Seven they didn't need that anymore.
