Whenever you see janeway fight, she has a phaser rifle.

I think it's because Janeway likes the "big guns." She always looks awesome when she fights whether she hits them or uses a phaser. I think one of my favorite scenes was in Unimatrix Zero when she uses the bat'leth and attacks the Borg drone with it. I was like YES! That was awesome!

I love it when she goes after the alien lady in "Scientific Method" !! It's good times...good times to be had by all....she fights with Seven of Nine...oh jeez...and in "Macrocosm". The point about guns seems to be quite true....

But she's got a nice pair of arms in "Macrocosm".

My memory could be playing tricks on me but I do not remember actually seeing Janeway hit the women in Scientific Method.

I think the opening scene in the Hirogen 2 parter where Janeway is fighting as a Klingon is the best fight scene she was in.

I just think she was close to strangeling the alien woman in Scientific Method. I don't remember though. I read that during that episode Kate Mulgrew had quit smoking while filming it so when she looks really tired and stressed she said that was actually not a whole lot of acting but what she was really going through trying to quit. Yeah when she was a Klingon it was cool.

I don't know the answer, but interestingly enough, Garret Wang spoke about this very subject in an interview. The interview was once posted on this website, but I'm unable to find it.

He mentioned that Mulgrew was absolutely terrible in action scenes and looked ridiculous performing in them. So they later on ensured that almost all action scenes would go to another member of the crew.

I found that particularly humerous.

Yeah I listened to that too and thought it was funny. I don't think it was so much doing that many action scenes. Like it depended on them but he said she didn't run very athletically so it was kind of not making sense seeing how she was a captain. I met him at Comic Con in 2006. He was really cool! I don't know, I guess it depends on the actor and what they can do, etc. She was probably just not suited for stuff like that. However I think she is a good actress. Too bad Rick Berman never allowed them to fully show their emotions during most scenes otherwise I think the show would have been a lot better.

Kate said herself that she couldn't run very well....so that's why they tried to pan closely in during scenes where she needed to move quickly, or have her sort of strut. If you notice in one of the episodes, she tosses something into Engineering and then takes off around the corridor before the explosion, she sort of hits the ground....that's a great scene. I don't think she looked ridiculous in it at all. Same thing for "Workforce", when she's being chased.

But I know what you mean...

And in "Scientific Method", she rushes the lady, grabs her around the throat and shoves her into the bulkhead, nearly choking her to death.

She certainly handled that well, as an actress. I was quite impressed.

Yeah it's kind of hard to run when they made the actresses where those high heeled platform shoes. I know I couldn't run in those if I had to wear them. That probably sucked for her. But at least she was willing to say that she didn't do those scenes very well.

What about "Living Witness"? She exicuted someone. That was pretty cool. She just threw the phaser rifle at the security officer.
