Don't be put off by the initial head-line, and instantly stop reading the thing.
SERIOUSLY.
Read it. All of it.
Think about this: If a teacher had a weapon, would Columbine have happened?
Think about this: Would parents fear kidnapping nearly as much if 'lunch monitors' were armed security guards?
Think about this: In the states, There is a LAW which states that no administrative body, except for congress itself, or a court of law can restrict a person from owning a fire-arm, provided they are properly licensed.
"Jane Doe" is.
Think about this: Nine out of ten gas station owners in the state of Washington, NOT ONLY HAVE A FIRE-ARM ON THE PREMISIS, but actually include fire-arms training in thier' normal training routine.
So: If a gas station attendant is allowed to shoot someone to protect a $12 gas and dash, why can't a teacher do it to protect the children of the nation?
Movie Quote((Miss Congeniality [sp?])): My florist has a gun.
In Texas, EVERYONE has a gun... except teachers. Friendly thought. Isn't it?
Think about this: Planes get hijacked, and the US Government jacks up security in airports.
Think about this: A school has a student go on a shooting spree, and yet still, the School districts demand that teachers come to work unarmed.
My thoughts: Teachers are the last people that should come to work unarmed.
Think about this: Would your child likely be as much of a disobedient child infront of someone who not only marks your report card, but also carries a .45 mm Chief's special? I doubt it.
I say to that court judge: Look at the law, listen to the law, and teach the schoolboard a lesson.
However, I also think that teachers should ALSO learn the American equivelant of the Canadian "Basic Security Training" courses 1 & 2. This will help them defuse a situation PRIOR to the needing of fire-arms... but in some cases, it's inevitable. Let's give these people who give our children a future, a future.
