|
Last week, the U.S. senate voted down the measure to make tours of duty 1:1, so that soldiers could come home for as long as they are in Iraq. Right now, they spend more time overseas. The state of the military--the army, at least--is grim. This is not fair to the soldiers or their families, so unless this directly affected you, you might not have noticed. I am personally in the process of writing to every senator who voted against this amendment (subsequently, all of them voted against drawing down from Iraq in 9 months, which was also a good idea). This is a measure that was important whether you support the war or not. Either way, we are sending the soldiers overseas, and they deserve to be treated properly. They are the nation's responsibility, and the nation is not being responsible.
This is the list of people who voted it down. I encourage you to pick at least any senators from your state, visit www.senate.gov , and send them a letter.

This is not intended to be another Iraq debate. I don't care if you support the war or not, and though I consider it a personal attack if you disapprove of the Webb amendment, I do not want to discuss it at all. Most people are not changing their minds about Iraq. I think support this measure is the least that anyone could do. Thanks.

It's a pity Senator Allard isn't running for re-election. I'm hoping Bob Schaffer will be as good as he is in all the good ways.
