Thu Jun 14, 2007 9:03 pm Voyager - lacking the B Plot? |
|
I have noticed recently that the majority of voyager episodes only have one story line to them as apposed to the main A Plot and the secondary B plot in a single episode. I find this very dissapointing.
Its understandable that sometimes its better to have just the main story e.g. Carpenter Street (ENT), The Inner Light (TNG), Far Beyond the Stars (DS9) etc but i much prefer it in the long run when episodes have two story lines e.g Stigma (ENT), Family (TNG), Heart of Stone (DS9) etc

My theory is that they were just burnt out since it was the thrid consecutive series and they'd just done a movie. And some of the A plots were really good ( like Counterpoint)...

I agree - they were seriously burning out running consecutive series at once while in the middle of feature filming - its amazing that more eps didnt suck because of that - and many of thsoe stories would not have benefitted from a subplot - indeed they would have detracted by taking time off the A plot.
Yes, some of the 2 plot eps were good, but sometimes the B plots could get in the way.

I do think that voyager does have some good episodes, just as any other star trek series but i think that when it comes to watching it on dvd & re-runs etc etc its best when an episode has two story lines.
Its like i find it much easier to pick up a dvd of DS9 & TNG and just pick an epiosde and happily watch it. But with voyager i really struggle to find an episode i want because most are just 1 story when really what i want is to see the characters deal with situations and grow and to kept entertained for 40 minutes. Rather than sitting there watching 1 set of characters with 1 situation that is about the episodes story line and not the chatacters for nearly an hour. In my opinion it becomes very tiresome.
