I've noticed that Trip and other crew members use a device that is very familiar to me. I work in Wegman's warehouse and I run a very large bread oven. Part of my job is using a laser thermometer to double check the temperature of the oven when it's running. You can just point it at anything click the button and it tells you the temperature. When Trip uses it he's always repairing something (for example the transporter). I don't know, I just think its funny to watch knowing what the device is really used for.

Cool! I didn't realize they had that...I think ENT made a point of trying to bridge the "gap" between fictional technology and current technology. They actually used Mac computers as the screens. Pretty neat stuff.

Actually, I think the device looks closer to the inventory scanner we used at the gas station I worked at. It's got a bigger display panel.

The one pictured is the exact thermometer I use at work. It has a laser pointer on it. I actually found the picture by doing a google image search for 'laser thermometer'.
