PostSat Mar 17, 2007 1:48 pm    Presidential candidate Brownback: Homosexual acts are immor

Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate Sam Brownback is backing the nation's top general over his remarks that homosexual acts are immoral.

The Kansas senator planned to send a letter on Thursday to President Bush supporting Marine Gen. Peter Pace, who earlier this week likened homosexuality to adultery and said the military should not condone it by allowing gay personnel to serve openly.

My God. What is with people? What ever happened to "All men are created equal"? Or does that only apply to heterosexual white men with a wife, two children, a dog, and a white picket fence?

They're both right, but I think the general saying his personal feelings on the issue was inappropriate. But he quickly regretted not focusing on the policy itself, however. But bear in mind that it wasn't just homosexuality that he deemed immoral, either.

Yes. I agree with them that homosexual acts are entirely immoral. Completely. However, when the Joint Chiefs chairman made personal comments about the issue of homosexuality (and adultery, as well as a few other acts, I think) when being interviewed about "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," I thought he made a mistake in getting personal about it and not sticking to the rule itself and the military basis - not his own moral basis - for the rule. The general acknowledged that after the interview, saying he made a mistake in focusing more on his personal opinion, and I think that was a wise thing to do.

I remember you supported allowing Gays to serve openly in the military.

And I still do. Well, not so much openly, per se, but they shouldn't be thrown out because it becomes out in the open. But that's not the issue here.
