Tue Feb 27, 2007 9:05 pm Gore's Mansion Uses 20x Power of Average Household |
|
Quote: | The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization, issued a press release late Monday:
Last night, Al Gores global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.
Gores mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES). |

You gotta love these Democrat politicians. They claim they're for the "working man", yet they're super rich and have island resorts.
Gore moans and groans about the enviornment and he has this going?
Nice job, "winner" of the 2000 elections.

Yet more evidence of the hypocrisy of the loony Hollywood Left (part of which Al Gore could now be considered) and of Al Gore. He's the worst person to lecture us about global warming, what with this, his private jet, his ties to oil companies, and so on.
Hypocrites love company.

When did Gore become a climatologist? Sheesh. This whole global warming fad is so annoying.

Thats really an average house
Yelling at the owners of mansions for using too much electricity, is like getting angry at Boeing, because their planes aren't as fuel-efficient as a Cessna.
How do we know these are accurate, anyway?

The rooms isnt really the point, what is the point, is that his his in ONE month, consumes more power then my house will in a year (Heh...we use a lot of power, to....yeah, its really small in comparism...). The complaints is, he is going around talking about saving the enviroment and conserving, and look at what his house consumes....

It doesn't matter how big his house is. It's still ridiculously hypocritical of him. If he's going to do that, then he doesn't deserve to lead the fight for the Global Warming movement or at least, be one of it's leader or even a participant for goodness sakes.
That's like a KKK member leading the NAACP. Doesn't really fit, does it?
Not to mention, even in a house that size, it's a little excessive that in ONE MONTH he consumes what people do in ONE YEAR. I'd tolerate it if it was at the least in 6 months or something, but this is excessive.
As for your analogy...Boeing doesn't go around claiming that they are fighting for fuel efficiency in the air, are they? If they are, then all this means is that they're as dumb as Gore. Either way, Gore is an idiot and a hypocrite.

Actually it's like you guys are arguing about the lost cents when you should be arguing about the lost dollars.
What about all those casinos with their waterfalls, fountains, lights, pokie machines, etc etc. What about all the buildings in the city that keep their office lights on 24/7 when no one is there. I could go on.

Waterfalls in casinos, fountains, lights, "pokie" machines, and buildings in the city don't act as voices for the Global Warming movement. They don't make movies about how how we need to focus on conservation. Al Gore does.
Thus...the hypocrisy.
Sadly, this tends to be the case with anyone, not just Democrats or politicians. Have we forgotten that Christian preacher that talked badly about Gays and was discovered to have had massages by a Gay man?
It's always the case. A powerful figure fights for a cause and chances are, he's right on the other side of the fence.
It's endless....

I say all the casinos should go for their waterfalls, fountains, lights, and everything. I'd even tell Mr. Gore to go for as much electricity as he wants, because I don't think that global warming is anything near what some of these extremists make it out to be. I just love how he said in his documentary that Americans need to save power at home, yet his home uses 20x that of a normal American house. (And we do know that these are accurate...the readings came from the power company...)

No, it just says they came from a power company. Isn't this kind of information supposed to be private?

I don't see why it would be private. You have no reason to expect privacy, when most houses have a power meter in plain site of anyone who cares to look at it. In addition to that, the agency that released the information was the The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, which is an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization.

He just... said that? I just don't get people today... "The power company," "A power company." I don't think the NES is going to lie about a bunch of power statistics.
Sorry, but I'm with Puck here. The whole global warming issue? It's really annoying. We're not dead yet, right? So, can't we just shut up and enjoy the life we've got with as much electricity as we want/need?
I'd hate to pay his electric bill

Actually, considering the impact Al Gore may have on the global warming debate, it is important.

Why is it that people don't get this topic?
We're not simply picking on Al Gore. Again, Al Gore keeps talking about Global Warming and conservation and the such and here he is, using up tons of energy. It's hypocritical...

It's not really the bill that we are discussing, its the incredible hypocrisy. Gore has recently made a documentry, trying to get people to conserve and his home consumes more power in one month then the normal home does in a year (They didn't get into sizes, for the average home, here...)
As for Casinos and such? We've already known they suck up power

No, as a matter of fact, I haven't. I've been watching the news lately too.
And I get the point of this topic. I've seen the documentary, I've read the book, I get the picture. I still think its pathetic that we now care more about how much power Al Gore uses than we do about the war in Iraq. (I realize I'm exaggerating a bit here, but thats how it seems). For the record, the average house in America is 1500 sq feet, with two bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms.

Fox News, specifically Hannity and Colmes and the O'Reilly Factor. The liberal media would of course never even think about touching it.

EDIT: Its really not the networks themselves that are biased, its more of the talk shows and stuff.
And, once again, how do we know that the power information is reliable.

Colmes loves Gore and O'Reilly defended Gore, and tonight as well. Only Hannity's gone after him out of those three.
I think so, though, to answer your question, but I don't know.

If we are going to use this line of thought, how do we know any poll or news story is reliable?
