PostMon Jan 15, 2007 8:03 am    Voyages Of Imagination-a masterpiece!

After going through the excellent encyclopedia "Voyages Of Imagination", I must tell you all that the book is a masterpiece! Every single Star Trek book is listed there with a short description of its content. It's also interesting to see the comments about the books from the different authors. The timeline in the end of the book is exellent, even if I do find some small errors there.

The author Jeff Ayers has really done a good job with this book, I can only imagine how many hours he has spent on reading, research and interwieing differnt authors.

The book is a masterpiece and I strongly reccomend it for anyone who have ever read any of the Star Trek books.

As for the Voyager books I'm impressed that two books, "The Escape" and "Ragnarok" was written befoere the authors had seen a single episode, due to the fact that the show hadn't started yet. They only had some script and character description from Paramount to write after!

As for the timeline, there are a few errors in the Voyager timeline which I have taken the liberty to change in my own Voyager seasons 1-3 timeline at: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Park/1964/timeline.html

Most of the stardates in the books themselves are totally out of order, for example the stardate mentioned in "Incident At Arbuk is 48135.6 which is actually before Voyager arrived to the Caretaker's array! It has been altered to 48531.6 in "Voyages Of Imagination" but I took the liberty to state that the events in the book started at Stardate 48516 to be able to squeeze in the week-long events in the book into the timeline.

In "Voyages Of Imagination" the main events in the book "Mosaic" is placed between "Tattoo" and "Cold Fire". I took the liberty to move it after "Cold Fire" because the time between "Tattoo" and "Cold Fire" was to short to have room for the events in the book

The events in the book "Her Klingon Soul" have been placed according to the Stardate in "Voyages Of Imagination" which it wasn't in the encyclopedia itself where it was placed in the middle of the season, despite the stardate.

The mention of a newborn baby in "Chrysalis" means that the episode must take place some time after "Deadlock", not between "Lifesigns" and "Investigations" as suggested in "Voyages Of Imagination". I took the liberty to place it between "Resolutions" and "Basics" where there's a four month long period where nothing is happening.

According to "Voyages Of Imagination", the events in the book "Echoes" takes place shortly after "Future's End". However, the mentioning of Kes's long hair means that the events takes place after "Before And After", probably at the end of the year 2373. It's also a bit unlikely that Voyager should encounter another time anomaly so shortly after the events in "Future's End". I placed the events in the book after "Worst Case Scenario" since it is the last book of the seasons 1-3 books.

The stardate 50573.2 in "Marooned" is wrong because the events in the book takes place after the episode "Before and After". In "Voyages Of Imagination", the events in "Marooned" are placed between the episodes "Real Life" and "Distant Origin". I changed the stardate to 50863 which is between the stardates for those episodes.

Just small nitpicking in an otherwise excellent book. I hope that mr. Ayers don't mind that too much.

I would also like to add that the stardate mentioned in "Incident At Arbuk is 48135.6 which is actually before Voyager arrived to the Caretaker's array! It has been altered to 48531.6 in "Voyages Of Imagination" but I took the liberty to state that the events in the book started at Stardate 48665 because I would like to suggest that the events in "Incident At Arbuk" will take place after "Ex Post Facto". Why? Because in "Ex Post Facto", Tuvok is doing a mind meld with Tom Paris and everybody seem a bit upset about it, at least Neelix. In "Incident At Arbuk", Tuvok is doing a mind meld with a Sperian more and less on Janeway?s orders and this time no one seems to have any objections, despite that this mind meld has some strange effects. I therefore assume that the events in "Incident At Arbuk" takes place after "Ex Post Facto".

I found it on ebay for only $10. I'm thinking about snagging it. http://cgi.ebay.com/Voyages-of-Imagination-The-Star-Trek-Fiction-Companion_W0QQitemZ320079202407QQihZ011QQcategoryZ201QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
