I'm not gothic, but I have some friends who are, it's cool. I like all the black and stuff, it just isn't something I would wear, but I think it's cool if other people do.

define gothic as you hgave differant levals of gothic.
You have the people who dress up in old period cloths or the large black style with the white mak up and such style gothics
or you have the people who dont wear the stuff but are very gothic in there life style.
me I am not the type of gothic poerson who dresses up in the cloths I am more the goth who has the red living room the dark wood furnature and the candles on every wall...
so ia ma semi goth.

Those are the sublabels of the clothing side of it. As for what you say yes you are Goth, to quote the god father of gothdom:
Peter Murphy wrote: | "The Goths are beautiful, a vast depth of sub cultural,
aesthetic and poetic ideas, and we would identify with that
as we did back in 1979. But not the post modern distortion
...the costume without the brain."
--Peter Murphy |
You are goth cause you beleive in the aesthetic and ideals that are goth, but you don't dress the part which is fine since goth doesn't have a dress code to start with.

In all honest us True Gothics, who know the histroy and understand the subculture do not like people who shop at Hottopic and wear big baggie black pants, as that is not gothic, Hottopic is not gothic and is shuned by the real gothic culture, Plus bands like HIM, Slipknot are not gothic either but rather metal, and punk. True gothic music comes from the 70s-1995, but their are a few new darkwave bands that make the gothic list, like Lacuna Coil. But to be true if you see someone wearing big baggie pants with chains everywhere listening to Slipknot their not gothic but rather what we call Babybats, Mallgoths, or Posuers.

haha ... I used to be all out hardcore goth, but I've backed it up quite a bit, don't get me wrong, I'm still in love with my goth stuff, I just live more of a "goth lifestyle" now, rather than go all out in displays of gothic fashion. As for gothic music, I'm in love with a guy called Voltaire, if you've never heard him I'd be glad to send you a couple of songs.

Is he like... the writer Voltaire? Who wrote Candide (the novel before it was an opera)? Which, though funny was an incredibly depressing book? Meaning... is the singer depressing? Because that's.... depressing, I don't know why people subject themselves to that.
