All Good Things

I was browsing this website and found alot of people seem to think All Good Things was the best season ending and the DS9 ending was the worst.

...and that End Game as bad.

I actually think End Game was the best, sure they should have had another two eps showing them at home.

But AGT was:

-A stupid plot (an anomaly paradox...come on!)
-The time travel was depressing (in spite of the cool ships the upgraded Enterprise D and the Pasture)

I can name dozens of better episodes so I'm dying to know why people like this one so much?

Well, I really liked it because of the fact that the series started with Q and the trial, and it was a fitting ending, looking towards the future, recapping the past, and showing that Space is not really the Final Frontier. It was really well done as well. I guess if you didn't like the whole Q thing, then this episode was not that good.

It was great in my opinion. But I really think that a huge part of my loving that episode is nostalgia. I can still remember what a huge deal it was for my family when it was first aired. They had a marathon of the top ten fan fav. episodes of TNG. Then at the end they showed All Good Things.

It's hard to say why it's so well liked. Perhaps it's due to the fact that (not counting the movies) it's the first true finale to Star Trek in general, which had then paved the way for the TNG films. I agree that perhaps it wasn't the absolute best of the series, but it was a great send of for the crew of TNG series wise, and as far as Q goes, the final time we see him prior to DS9/VOY, although I think the DS9 appearance was before this episode?

In all fairness as to the plot, and how it went though, this episode was written at the same time as Star Trek Generations, so the attention was divided between this episode, and the movie. Interestingly, this idea had almost became what we saw as Generations, considering how Generations ended, I am glad that it wasn't the series finale.

While I do not consider Endgame the best finale for a series in Star Trek, and I can agree that the ending showed the point of the entire series, getting home, I can agree that it felt disappointing to not show at least a few minutes in the finale of the crew being welcome homed, with family and friends waiting in San Fransisco for those that made it back.

Back to the topic at hand, perhaps it's because several key points in TNG history, present and future where shown, and with the past, Tasha Yar and the like were able to appear, almost bringing the series to a circle in terms of characters and development. In particular, the end of the episode is most memorable to me, in which Picard sits down to the poker game for the first (and last time for the crew to be seen playing the game on screen) and mentions how he should have done this before, and Rikers response that there was always a seat waiting for him. Then and there, it told me that the crew had come to accept that they were all family, even though none were actually related in a bloodline sense. That could potentially be a reason why it was so well liked. It also probably helped that when the episode did end, the crew was still together, heading for the unknown.

That's my take on it, anyways.

I think they were all good but "All Good Things" was the best series finale. It wrapped everything up nicely while giving us a peek at what the future could hold and still giving us an adventure worth watching in between.

Time travel. Q. Data as an old man. Doctor Crusher and Picard were married. Tasha came back. Past, Present, & Future Ent.-D going boldly into the singularity.

Stop me if this is too exciting for you...I love this episode! Although, I'm absolutely crazy for (though it brought wetness to my eyes) the Voyager finale' "Endgame". My favorite so far.

PS: Did I fail to mention Q?
