PostThu Jan 12, 2006 2:34 pm    Polluting the timeline

Polluting the timeline.

I'm not sure if this has been made before but I couldn't find it so I'll continue.

Does anyone else think that Star Trek enterprise totally ruins and pollutes the Star Trek timeline ?
I mean come on ? Kirk was supposed to be the first captain of the first enterprise because it was the first ever series.
I mean besides from the fat the show sucks and the actors are at best mediocre does anyone know why this (And I use the name grudgingly) 'Star Trek' series was created ?

Well, i don't say it sucked, but i didn't liked it either. Somethings were very good and cool, but other things totally NOT. I just didn't vote.

Not true, actually. Pike was Captain of the Enterprise before him
But yeah, I never liked Enterprise. I think it pollutes the timeline as well, pretty much.

Captain April was (not canon per se, but everyone seems to accept it) captain before pike. But the NCC-1701 was the first Federation ship with the name Enterprise, the NX-01 was an Earth ship, major differnce. With that said...

This is in the wrong section, it needs to be in the Enterprise section, as such, MOVED TO ENTERPRISE.

I agree with you lionhead. Despite some flaws, plot and some character building that I don't really like, I love Enterprise. Too bad it only have 4 seasons

Enterprise may have had alot of disruptions in the timelines , but so has practically every other series star trek has made one time or another in the future and past.I dont see nothing major out of line that enterprise is such a flop of a series, only that people hate enterprise because its in the past with cheap technology and dont like the ship or the way the crew react to situations.I for my part love enterprise and wished it would have lasted all 7 seasons.

I couldn't give a *beep* about minor timeline inconsistencies. Fair enough, if there was a major inconsistency, then it is wrong, but I prefer to just enjoy Enterprise for being an intelligent show, worthy of carrying the Star Trek name. I think I can live with minor timeline errors.

Why do people have to put down enterprise because the timeline gets poluted? I mean no one is perfect in making these series, and if you think about it, sisko, picard and janeway have done the same thing in there series at least one time and had to change the outcome in order to get back to there reality, i mean is archer and company so much different? He got the timeline restored back to normal the same as the rest did. I have to say i agree with the recent statements, that its better to just sit back and enjoy the series without looking at every little flaw, and be glad enterprise is something else to watch. Of all the hatred for berman and company from so many people, at least we all can thank them for bringing enterprise on the air, and giving us something else to enjoy until the next series arrives (if it does).I found alot of enjoyment in enterprise and wouldn't trade it for anything.

^Great post.

I'm a fan of comic books, particularly Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. You know, if I were to sit down with a pencil and notepad, I could list several dozen discrepancies with the timeline in various DC and Marvel Comics titles. There are things happening in various comic books that contradict events from a decade or two ago.

However, I don't care. These things are unavoidable. Were the Enterprise creative team meant to watch EVERY episode of TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY, remember every detail, and then write it down so that they could be sure not to contradict anything when writing Enterprise? Sure, MAJOR timeline discrepancies probably are a little annoying, but when it comes to minor inconsistencies, I think I can live with them.

Um minor? I take it you haven't seen the show. They were huge, glaring inconsistencies....

Maybe I'm not Trekkie enough to be able to see any inconsistencies in Enterprise. Can anyone explain what they are, those consistencies?

I think timetravel is a lot more three dimensional than you guys think it to be. I have lately been considering the possibility of the involvement of parallel universes when it comes to time travel.

If I was writer I would make a new series based on trek time travel and try to help show some reason why paradoxes are not applicable or are somehow explained through my thinking but also somehow make it least complicated as possible.

I think the far future of trek has all possibilities. Wars between parallel universes being one.

There were two things i hated about enterprise:

* The fact that Trip had to die... Felt about the same when data died in Nemesis.
* It were only 4 seasons... They should have done at least 7.

For the rest it's my second favourite series of Star Trek

That's before Picard and his crew had to chase and destroy borg cube in the past. Remember First Contact? So it's possible that some of the drones weren't destroyed and stay dormant until the people form Archer's era revive them.

Yes it is very possible that could of happened! But wouldnt picard have heard of the encounter in the history logs?????Looks like poaching from the other series for ideas! They clearly showed that picards crew/timeline were the 'first' to encounter them. There were no previous 'logs' to document their existance!
But it is just a TV show isnt it!!!

Actually, VOY ruined it way before ENT. According to them, it was not the ENT-D crew that discovered the Borg...

I most agree, Loved it from the word GO. Not true for me with the other shows, took a few years for them to grow on me, then loved them. Were there bad storys yes, but over all it was go. Personal I like history, and think sometimes its good to look back, before you forward. BTW
