Breakup of the United Kingdom?

In May 2007 the Scottish and Welsh elections will be held. The nationalist parties are expected to make gains, especially in Scotland.

What do you think about the idea of Scottish/Welsh/English independence? (Don't have to be British to reply )




I used to dismiss the SNP and Plaid Cymru as a single issue silly party. However that seems to be changing. They are gaining in strength and the SNP is expected to win the Scottish elections for the first time ever. They also seem to be offering much more than independence.

That would be a huge earthquake in the British political landscape and would most likely lead to a referendum on independence and a possible breakup of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

I'm on the fence about Scottish independence. I would much rather prefer to see more powers given to the Scottish and welsh legislatures and an English Parliament set up.
