The loose use of the term 'Quadrant' in TOS/TNG bothers me. The way they went on about them, you'd think a q. was a sector- and there were definitely more than four.

By definition, a Quadrant is never more than 1/4th of anything...
1. a quarter of a circle; an arc of 90.
2. the area included between such an arc and two radii drawn one to each extremity.
3. something shaped like a quarter of a circle
