To me Damar is a great character who had one of the greatest character developments of any non-main character in Star Trek along with Dukat, Weyoun and Garak. Also I think Casey Biggs did a wonderful job as an actor portraying this character.
He began as a simple drunken, violent thug and ended up as a legendary rebel leader in the fight against the Dominion. In the end he gave his life for his people and in my oppinion died as a great hero.
But what do you think? Was Damar a Hero or a Villain?

"And he piled upon the whale's white hump, the sum of all the rage and hate felt by his whole race. If his chest had been a cannon, he would have shot his heart upon it."

Hell yeah to major character development of the guy,and Casey Biggs is like indeed ,a great actor.
But i cant vote personally cause i feel that he`s somewhere in the middle of those two options.I was really upset and angry when he killed Ziyal. Then,to me,he was like "Argh, you S.O.B!". But before that the sorta loyalty between him and Dukat was leet, brothers in arms or such. And then yeah,he grew from a drunk to a resistance leader. And uh,i guess his eyes got opened a little and his character matured even more and stuff.Got shaken up a little.Like when after the dominion took out Lakaria city or such after the resistance attacks in revenge he was like "What kind of people kills innocent women and children ?!" And Kira just gave him THE look and was like "yeah Damar..what kind ?"
To me he was a fully 3d character,so yeah well dev. by the script writers, that is,he`s grey, not black (evil) or white (good) but in that niche in between.

Definatly hero. His story of how he started out and how he ended up, to see him change so much had a realisticly human quality to that character and i felt it was easy to relat to. His character wasnt as black & white as most of the characters star trek dishes out.

A villian, for God's sake. OK, Biggs was a gr8 actor, but still, he murdered Dukat's daughter, worked under Weyoun, and was a leading light in the Dominion. And he was always drunk.

Being drunk makes you a villain? Then half of the planet Earth is filled with villains....
As for working under Weyoun, that didn't really matter does it? Garak used to serve under Enabren Tain. Is he a villain? I wouldn't say Garak is pure good, but he certainly isn't a villain perse. If a soldier that used to serve under Hitler changed alligence to the allies, is he a pure villain?
The only mistake he made I agree on is killing Ziyal.
I definitly think he changed by the end. I agree he wasn't a good guy and loved the Federation. He only changed to save Cardassia, but his views were definitly different by the end and he died a decent guy.
