What do you get if you cross Borg Technology with a 29th Century holographic emitter? Internal transporter nodes! (Yeah, I don't know how the Nanoprobes "extrapolated" that technology either.)
A transporter malfunction leads to the Doctor's mobile emitter being assimilated by some of Seven's nanoprobes, which in turn go on to take a tissue sample from "random crewman of the week" and grow a clone that looks nothing like him.
Using technology extrapolated from a 29th Century Holographic emitter, this new improved Borg Drone has multi-adaptive shielding, internal transporter nodes and all manner of technological marvels. As well as an improved ability to adapt to social situations, who'd have thought holographic generators would become so versatile in the future!
Anyway, the Borg learn of the existence of this new Drone and come along to reclaim him for the Collective, but "One" has other ideas. Using his superior technological distinctiveness he hacks into the Sphere's navigational system and sends it into a nebula, crushing it. His multi-adaptive shielding prevents him from being turned into robo-salsa though, luckily, although he is critically injured.
He decides to allow himeslf to die, claiming that if he continues to live, the Borg will keep coming after him, ignoring the fact that the Borg wont actually *know* that he's dead until after they assimilate Voyager and it's crew, which they would probably want to do so in order to gain their knowledge of "One" anyway. Fortunately this issue is never raised again.

Actually it wasn't a clone. If you pay close attention next time you'll hear that the nanoprobes used the genetic code a a TEMPLATE aka blueprint to create a life form. They only needed a design to go on. There was no mention of cloning at all.

Yea- I guess nano-probes is the greatest technology around along with the doctors 29 century mobile emitter. This is another episode with alot of techno-babble that is hard to extrapulate because the writers could sense all the probable technology.
oblative armor
internal transporter nodes
multidimensional adaptability
Too bad the drone part of him had to win out at the end. Sacrificing himself for the good of the collective.
One thing about this ep that makes me wonder is what might have happened if they gave the drone time to assimimlate himself! Instead of allowing him to download a giga-twad of data through his extensors.
Maybe if he sat around for acouple of weeks he didn't become hyped and activate a back-up proximity transeiver to the collective. lol. During that time the back-up thing might have been discovered. lol

You obviously don't remember the episode...because he sacrificed himself for the good of Voyager, not the Collective. He took control of the Borg Sphere and flew the sphere into that nebula that made the sphere implode. He then died on Voyager because of his shielding that permitted him to survive in space, and would not allow the Doctor to save him because he posed a threat to the crew...

This is a good point though.
What? Did VOY send the Borg a hail about it?

No, they could have known, the Borg have this weird beacon thing, what ever its actually called, basicly, as long as you function, so does the tracking thing Him dying was to prevent him being found, and assimilated by the borg, which would as we all know, just made a tougher enemy for Voyager to God Mod beat. Opps.... talking as if it was an RPG or something....

I am familliar with the ep. A drone will only understand the Collective. By my saying Collective I mean Voyager was the drones Collective. Seven just about died 7 times trying to figure out if Voyager was her 'Collective'.

You refer to the Interplexing Beacon - and that continues to operate even after the drone's death as a means of the collective remaining in contact with it to home in on its location and retrieve any relevant data it acquired before its death, then to order it to execute its self destruct command.
