Fri Jun 16, 2006 6:57 pm S31-Are Sisko and Garak material? |
|
I watched episode "In the Pale Moonlight" recently and Sisko and Garak united to trick the Romulans into the Dominion War. Suffice it to say, Sisko's nicer plan didn't work. Garak had to improvise and literally kill the Romulans. I won't give much else away, but here is a place you can read up on it.

Anywho, I was wondering if S31 would have approved of what they did? Would they be annoyed because if Sisko and Garak had failed, that would seal the Federation's doom in the war?
If they did approve, why did they not ever try and contact Sisko and Garak for recruitment? Is it because deep down inside, Sisko would never approve of that and only did this because he was desperate? Well, even then, he didn't like what Garak had done.
As for Garak, wouldn't he be invaluable to S31? A former Obsidian Order agent in their midst?
I understand why they went after Bashir, and Bashir IS cool, but Bashir always hated S31. From the beginning. He never wanted ot do assignments for them. The only time he did, he was forced into it.

Sisko isn't. He has Moral values and ethics. It clearly made him sick to do what he did. When he made a log entery on it, he was drinking his rear off. He also expected to get caught and get in trouble, and was not going to offer an explaination.
Garak? Maybe, except hes a Cardassian, his first Loyalty would be to his people.

I don't see Sisko as an S31 operative. He might work with them on one or two things, like Admiral Ross, but he has too many Federation morals to join for good.
As for Garak, absolutly, were it not for the Cardassian Reconstruction. We saw in "The Die is Cast" how much Garak relished the chance to work for a cuthroat organization again.

I agree with others that sisko would have no part of S31. Garak on the other hand, well for all we know S31 could have set him up to it. His doesn't seem all that pro-federation to me.
Although I don't either think the federation would have lost the war without the romulans help. S31 would have no doubt have well developed plans including plans to colapse the wormhole soon I would think.

As for Garak, a lot of you say he is loyal to Cardassia. I meant, during the Dominion war. He obviously was not loyal to Cardassia at that point. In fact, he had been giving Starfleet codes to use against Cardassia, which he later regretted because it helped kill his people. I do think Garak would be...not opposed to the idea of joining S31 for a temporary period. Hell, I bet if he could have, he woudl have infected the Founders himself.

I agree with Founder here.
After a couple of years of exile on some Bajoran station, wouldn't you start to dislike your people, just a little bit? Although, Garak would do anything to rejoin his people (as in "The Die is Cast"), later on, Garak's will to return to his people waned (a la, the Dominion War and Cardassia's involvenment). And, Garak DID help the Federation. Although, you could view this as Garak trying to fix Cardassia, and the only way to do that was to fight it, I don't think that Garak is like that. So...Hell, yeah. Garak is S31 material. And, like Founder, I bet you that Garak would have infected the Founders himself, had he had the opportunity.
Although...Didn't Garak attempt to kill the Founders in "Broken Link"? Or wanted to...at least. I haven't seen the episode in its entirety.

Sisko was certainly not material, as previously stated. He just couldn't have gone along with it. As for Garak... really, I think he's too duplicitous. He's first loyal to the true Cardassia--he proves this over and over again--but when there is no true Cardassia, he's in it for himself. The only true loyalty he has is to his own actions... everything else can change depending on the situation. He's a very subjective kind of guy. He could've been useful to S31, but as an operative he'd be too unpredictable.

Yes, Garak is certainly unpredictable. I would have found it entertaining to see S31 try to control him, only to have them running around in circles.
I do wonder if S31 gave Sisko a mission, would he carry it out in the name of the Federation or would he allow it to fail and do things the "hard" way.
