The Globe and Mail wrote:
OTTAWA and MONTREAL -- Prime Minister Stephen Harper's refusal to call Quebec a nation has given political rivals a weapon they've been seeking to chip away at Conservative fortunes in the hotly contested province.

The full story

Now, I actually agree with Harper here (shudder). Quebec is not a nation. It has a rich and distinct historical and cultural identity separate from that of Canada, yes, but it isn't a nation.

The BQ and PQ are just in a major case of denial over the fact that not only are they still part of Canada, but they have a conservative Prime Minister whose federalist Conservative Quebec base actually threatens their separatism. They're just trying to recuperate and regroup after their losses from the election.

Quebec is kinda like wales... everyone knows it belongs to its bigger neighbour, but we all pretend it doesn't, just to get along

I don't know why Canada doesn't cut Quebec loose; it's nothing but a strain on the rest of the nation. Quebec would become a third world country if it was separated from the rest of Canada.

I've always secretly wished that western Canada would cut away it's eastern wasteland, and merge with the United States into a truly great nation.
