PostTue May 30, 2006 4:16 am    Aftermath

The UFP has suffered through so much in the 24th century. They had to face wars against the Borg, Klingons, and Dominions within the span of two decades.

I wonder what the exact losses are. I don't simply mean numbers. I also mean, what effect will this have on the UFP?

Obviously ENT and VOY, something I wish both shows didn't do, showed us the UFP will flourish in the future. Which pretty much undoes any mystery....

Do you think Starfleet will now opt for a more militiristic form of exploration? More weapons, less advanced sensors?

Will people want to join Starfleet knowing the danger of it? I'm sure most of those officers signed up to explore, not to fight wars.

How many ships are exactly even left? How will this affect ship production? During the war, many Miranda class starships were used and destroyed. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if those ships are now retired...

What are the political ramifications of the war? Will more species want to join or stay away from Starfleet? Are the Romulans, Klingons, and Dominion know allies with the Federation?

Now, I know everything I asked can only be answered by OPINIONS. That is fine with me. I'm not looking for exactly canon information. I wish to know what people think the ramifications of the wars are for the Fed.

If the federation headed for a more military approach of ships, they wouldn't need less advanced sensors etc, but would put less resources into development and more resources into further development of technologies such as zero point energy (ZPE) for quantum torpedos. Nothing is going to get worse or less advanced than the state their at.

It seems a strong opinion that the romulans would be allies after nemesis. I'm not too sure about it although think it's a very good possibility. Klingons are allies to my knowledge at the point of ST-X.

Something that will help the federation greatly in the next 100 years is invention of propulsion technology opening possibility to explore the Milky Way, even if it's only unmanned probes or small crew vessels. Q said himself 'humans are not meant to be in this part of the quadrant for another hundred years'. In this case, would make the federation at least on par with species with ultra fast propulsion like the borg, giving the federation a great military advantage in terms of intel.

One of the best topics I've ever seen here, wish there were more reply's.

I suspect that the UFP would close out the 24th century going strong. Thinking back to Sloan's interpritation of post 2375 to Dr. Bashier on theri way to Romulus, I tend to agree with him. The Klingons and Cardassians would now be a in a subordinate role to the UFP for years, the Dominion would take on a new, more enlightened reletionship with the Alpha/Beta Quadrent powers, and the Romulans would be the biggest threat to the Federation. With the large-scale defeat of the Borg at the end of 2377 and the new found common ground forged between Starfleet and the Romulan Miliatary following the Nemesis events in 2379, it looks good going forward.

But there would be interesting possible challanges... What about further Delta Quad exploration. I'm sure Admiral's Paris and Janeway would push for that. And the Gamma Quad has been a mystery since 2369. Some 10 years later, there is so much to see there. Will Cardassia be rebuilt to become an ally or would it decend into chaos and would the emerging new Cardassia continue its militaristic and zenophobic tendencies?

Are the Borg truly no longer a threat? I hope so, they were one of Trek's most tired enemies by "Endgame".

What about the Tholians? According to the Trek Star Maps book they had a huge amount of space near the Federation, Breen and Cardassian empires. Do they attempt to sieze more power after the Dominion War?

Does Starfleet return to having families on ships or do they adopt a more militaristic posture? This is really interesting. We already saw this changing before the Dominion war with the new Enterprise having no families, with classes like the Sabre, Defiant and Akira becoming prevelent in the fleet. I'd like to think that Starfleet got back to the business of exploration, most noteably of the Gamma Quadrent. I also hope that they would endeavor to rebuild Cardassia, a civilization worth saving.

Indeed they have, let us also remember that most of the trek we know and love was done on this span of decades but you are right.

I wonder what the exact losses are. I don't simply mean numbers. I also mean, what effect will this have on the UFP?

Hopefully? They wont be so STINKING Naive anymore.

What's wrong with that? It's showing that nothing is going to keep them down.

I think a bit of both, but the primary mission was founded on exploration.

Will people want to join Starfleet knowing the danger of it? I'm sure most of those officers signed up to explore, not to fight wars.

Maybe...Who knows? It's a risk you take, Starfleet is also the Federations defensive arm, some might join to protect their home.

How many ships are exactly even left? How will this affect ship production? During the war, many Miranda class starships were used and destroyed. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if those ships are now retired...

It depends really, probably not alot, things were so bad, they made a Frankenstien fleet (Though that could be atributed to wanting more ships for the manpower) Also, the Miranda class pretty much was already, but some was still in service. Some were not in service, but brought back into service.

What are the political ramifications of the war? Will more species want to join or stay away from Starfleet? Are the Romulans, Klingons, and Dominion know allies with the Federation?

Maybe...The Klingons were again weren't they? After the events in Nemesis it was implied that peace talks were about to begin.

I think the Federation will be the leading organisation in the Alpha quadrant for a few years yet.

I would hope that due to them defeating the Dominion that most non aligned species would now form an official alliance with the federation (if not actually become a part of it) to form an allied alpha quadrant organisation (similar to our current UN structure), where everyone has a seat at the table and a vote in all decisions concerning the quadrant.

I think any future tv series or movies should concentrate on seeing how Starfleet and the other alpha quadrant groups act and rebuild after the Dominion War (it does not have to be immediately after, but could be say 10 or 15 years into the future).

I would also like to see more use of species 8472 and how the negotiations with Janeway progress and if an alliance could be made with them to allow us to travel through thier space and them through ours, and to help when either of us are attacked.
