Wed May 24, 2006 5:34 pm Mercenaries Civilian Military Corporations Opinions? |
|
I was recently watching a documentary on this topic of Mercenaries fighting the wars to end violence. Now in the documentary it showed the overall effectiveness of the Mercenaries (former special forces) in defeating insurgency, and militias.
The whole idea was when a country needed help because people are killing each other and violence are at maximum a group of former special forces guys of about 200 to 600 people would be sent to that country to fight a war against the evil army of rebels killing innocent people.
In the case in Africa in the documentary about 600 former South African Special Forces Guys who now worked for Executive Outcomes a military for hire Corporation was sent to Sierra Leon to stop a massive violent uprising that led to thousands of people getting killed. Now they faced a group of 20,000 rebel men who are intent to killing anyone for no reason. Now what they did in Sierra Leon was completely bring the 20,000 rebels down to their knees with only 600 soldiers. But before they could completely anahillate the evil rebels the U.N. intervened causing the country to go back to under civil war and chaos.
In my overall opinion after watching the documentary I believe that the U.N. cannot stop violence with their forces who do nothing but stand around guarding without any actions taken.
With a Mercenary army of Former Special Forces with one goal of defeating the evil people in this world. I think they would be a better option in peacekeeping or surpressing violent uprising. Personally the United Nations are no longer able to keep peace and have become absolutely useless. The only thing good about the United Nations is the food & supplies they bring to the poor countries. But Militarily when it comes down to peacekeeping & surpressing violent uprising & killings Mercenaries should be the first option.
Any other opinions?
