This movie is about the life of famous hockey player Maurice "The Rocket" Richard; a legendary hockey player for the Montreal Canadiens during the Late 40's, 50's, early 60's. The man won numerous awards, scoring titles, was the most feared player of his time. This movie explores the hardships of Richard and what he had to go through to achieve his dream.
The movie also apparently deals with how French-Canadians felt like second class citizens to the English-Canadians. Suddenly a French-Canadian comes out of no-where and starts dominating in hockey giving the French-Canadians and idol to look up to.
The movie apparently ends with the infamous riot in 1955 caused by Richard's suspension from the playoffs.
It has been given 4 out of 4 stars and has been receiving nothing but great reviews by the critics. Definately something I'll be seeing, (more than once most likely).
Many of the actors are actually NHL players such as Vincent Lecavalier, Mike Ricci, Sean Avery (booo! Although his role in the movie is to get his ass kicked), Ian Laperrire, Matthieu Dandenault, Stephane Quintal and Pascal Dupuis.
They said they wanted to add authenticity to the hockey scenes so they actually brought in NHL players to act as the team mates of Richard.
Maurice Richard is played by Roy Dupuis (most notable for his parts in "La Femme Nikita"). Not only does he look similar to Maurice Richard but as a child he was a AAA hockey player so there is no stunt double for the hockey scenes. It's all done by the lead actor.

Cool. I hadn't heard of that movie. There are so many being released now, some are slipping under the radar. Thanks for sharing that. I shall see it when I can. The poster is very cool, don't you think?
