Alright, thism ight sound weird but i don't care:

Yesterday evening my dad and me where looking at a Crossroad in the middle of New Orleans for about a Half hour, on our TV(gotta love technology). It was 23:30(or 11:30 PM) here in europe so it was about 18:30(or 6:30 PM) out there.

it was quite on the roads, we saw a hot dog stand(talking about stereotyping), a low sun and a nice, clean road.

Looks like a nice city, New orleans but thats besides the point. what i want to ask to America:

Have you ever noticed how many Pick-up trucks and SUV's you people drive in? I mean, my dad and i where amazed at how many Pick-up trucks and SUV's came by, most of the time: Pick-up truck, SUV, pick-up truck, SUV, SUV, Pick-up truck. And i don't mean little ones, no this kind of action:





I mean, we have Caravan's that aren't that big.

Are those things really cheap or something or do you people just like to show off?

we went on al ittle stereotyping ramapage when watching the street cam, like we saw a lot of fat people, and most of them where holding a Milkshake.

Also, what i noticed, not many bicycles, but then again i come from holland, we have milions of those things but what i noticed is that every bicycle that came by had a basket up front... A basket.... Thats something in my country only Women have, its a woman thing over here. a guy with a basket on his bike is laughable.

Anyways, last question: Anybody ever looked at a Street Cam for a very long time, ever seen the netherlands? Its quite amazing on how much stuff you can find out about a country.

Wait... is this topic about SUVs or street cams? Because I hate both those things.
SUVs are awful for the environment and other road users. They are now gaining popularity in England, so I might go out and egg a few soon.

I hate the way cameras are everywhere. I am permanantly being watched and it makes me very paranoid. People say that you should only hate them if you have something to hide, but I'm scared I'll get framed for something. Or, more likely, get caught doing street art.

You can get SUVs and pickups for about the same price as an average car, it isn't really about whether they're cheap or more expensive. And the only people who really own them to show off are people from texas,

For most people who own them they just make sense to have. If you have kids/pets/activities/job-related issues then it might help.

There really aren't that many people that live close enough to their work or the store to use bicycles on an every day basis. Lots of people do have them though.

Lots and lots. i mean, here in holland everybody goes by car or public transport, don't think wrong. There aren't many people who go by bike. Also, we here have pets/children/activities/job-related issues but i don't see any Pick-ups or SUV's around here.

Most of them are Chevrolets i see now.

Take the Bourbocam one and ask for live. Then you get the same image i'm seeing right now. Seriously. Only i see it on my television.

count the number of Pick-up trucks, SUV's and normal cars. You get a lotm ore from both them then any normal car (horse and wagon not included, i see a lot of those too).

Where I've lived in various areas of California, there's a lot of reasons for more people to have cars rather than use public transit. Starting with the places I've lived with public transit does not exist. That was the valley. Up here on the coast, we have bike lanes ALL OVER THE PLACE (And idiots traversing them to match!), and decent public transit, but the towns are small and far between. To get to a decent department store, you have to drive anywhere between 20 minutes and an hour, depending on which town you have the misfortune of being in.

Now, back in the valley, a LOT of people had needlessly large trucks. It really did bug me down there. But eh, it's their money, and the pollution from cars down there is the LEAST of their many, many problems. Up here there's more SUV's. I don't so much have a problem with that. Most of them aren't huge-huge, and the only way to get inland is to go over 299. Has anyone here heard of 299? In the winter? If you don't have four wheel drive, you should forget it.

But meh. This is lengthy. If a person wants an excessive vehicle, that's their problem.

Simply, Americans drive SUVs and Trucks because they serve us well.

Everyone has a different agenda when they're on the road. I, for one, drive a light pickup truck because I like to have the space to load up my quad in back, or throw supplys in if I need it. In the summer, I also like to do some camping, and sometimes i'll even sleep in the back. I love my pickup truck; it's the single favorite thing I own; and yes, there are many who see it the same way as I do. My brother, for instance, drives a heavy duty pickup, because he installs garage doors for a living, and need to have a strong payload tolerance to hold the door panels and equipment.

Americans will simply buy what we will use. We buy what SERVES our needs.

Most people in the US have suv, pu trucks because they are needed, as said before, I would say most people in the US have 2 or 3 cars/trucks each. But I would say anyone with a Hummer only, as it, as a,"look at me thing" ( not that there is anything wrong with that ), As for bike use riding bicycles on US roads during rush hour is takeing your life in your hands, people speed, talk on cell phones, just do not play attn, well driving ( myself included from time to time) . I have a 4 door pick up, fits me my wife and kids, gets me to work, gets me on the beach to fish, carrys my mt bicycle to the trail and my road bicycle to parking lots for group rides.

Holland I hear that every bike gets ripped off 2 times a year and there are more bikes in the cancls then on the road . The men with Baskets on there bikes are making deliveries or homeless people looking for cans.
