PostMon Jul 03, 2006 11:35 am    Questions Regarding Boston Public...

Hi, Za Za Zoom here. I have a few questions regarding Boston Public, a American series that was never shown in the UK:

1) Was Boston Public a good series or bad one? What was it's best seasons and episodes?

2) Why was Jeri Ryan more badly received on Boston Public than she was on Voyager? Was she a bad performer or was it because the series was getting worse and she was a easy target for scapegoating?

3) Who did you like the most on Boston Public? What was your favourite character?

4) Who was your least favourite castmember or character?

5) Do you think David E. Kelley is an overrated hack?

Well, I never really watched it much, but I'll answer in anyway I can...

From what I saw? at least at first anyways, the show was GOOD. Interesting storylines and such. Maybe a bt corny at times, but hey, it's a high school drama.

2) Why was Jeri Ryan more badly received on Boston Public than she was on Voyager? Was she a bad performer or was it because the series was getting worse and she was a easy target for scapegoating?

Unfourtinitly I had stoped watching by the time she had joined, I simply did not have time to enjoy the show anymore. I did see a couple episodes with her in it though, she was good. I think it ws just a scapegoating thing, in addition to in the past, she was brought on shows (BP is the THIRD show at least she has done so) after they started, and were showing signs of being in trouble.

3) Who did you like the most on Boston Public? What was your favourite character?

I don't think I can really answer that sadly, I wouldn' know. They were all good in thier own way.

4) Who was your least favourite castmember or character?

Hmmmmn,... not really sure I could probably name a couple if I re watched it.

5) Do you think David E. Kelley is an overrated hack?

Meh, he just ran into a streak of bad luck. he's made some good shows.

Well she's kinda of similar to Ted McGinley; Ted McGinley is this popular cult actor who joins shows halfway through their run or close to cancellation and invaribly they're always going downhill by the time he turns up (which is why he has a shrine over at Jump the Shark).

Jeri Ryan had joined Dark Skies, Voyager and Boston Public long into their respective runs. I'm not so sure about Dark Skies since she joined the series in the last couple of episodes, long after it lost most of it's viewers and from what I've heard Jeri Ryan did a good job on that series (and it may have bought her the gig on Voyager).

And Star Trek Voyager was set in it's mediocre ways long before Jeri Ryan showed up and I did not notice any serious decline in quality; in fact her Seven of Nine character was a far better replacement than the dull Kes, plus Seasons Four and Five were as good as Voyager ever got. And all this hype of Seven being criticised as eye candy is horribly pathetic, since she was not the first nor last sex appeal character in Trek or sci-fi in general.

I can't comment on Boston Public or how Jeri Ryan affected the series, but I imagine it was a very goofy series that only complete halfwits could take seriously and it was most likely the pigs swill it always was. And you mentioning that Boston Public was already going down the toilet long before Jeri Ryan officially joined the cast is telling. Lord Borg.

And David E. Kelley has no bad luck and is mostly responsible for his rubbish; Ally McBeal was one of the worst shows I've watched and even his better shows go down the tubes eventually.

I have far more faith in Jeri Ryan as a an actress than I do with David E. Kelley as a writer...
