How do you pronounce certain words that are often pronounced differently?

For instance, Iraq. I sometimes pronounce it "I-raq," but usually pronounce it "Ear-aq."

"Permit" I pronounce "purr-mit" when it is a noun and "per-mit" when it is a verb. Pronouncing them both the same, IMO, is just wrong and irritating, and I always correct my parents when they pronounce it "purr-mit" when it is used as a noun. It's so frustrating!

Hmm...What other words are there that I pronounce differently then others, or differently at different times...

Hmmm, I kind of have a NYC accent. It works for me, though. I can't stand when people pronounce "either" and "neither" and "eether" and "neether."

Yeah Squiggy, I'm Canadian, too. I don't have the stereotypical accent! But I do have a sexy French one when I speak French. Although, that language is just sexy in-and-of itself.

Don't worry, Aaron! I say "N-eye-ther" and "eye-ther"

nadia! I say "E-mew!"

lol. Usually it's the same for me, but it depends on the context

I don't get the "Emu," "E-MOO," "e-mew" stuff. To what word is that referring?

You've never heard of an emu? *shuns*

They are very similar to ostriches. Their feathers are more like fur, though and they are smaller. They can kick someone across a room, though, .

They're from Australia.

				I say toe-mar-to. I'm English.

I have weird pronunciation of words, because I'm a Scouser, and because I'm absolutely hopeless at pronouncing words I don't know.

The other thing that annoys me is when English people pronounce Lieutenant the American way, when talking about the British rank. It's leftenant then

There's loads more, but I can't think of any at this moment.

I grew up near Houston, Texas, and I can't stand to hear people say "Youston" in instead, or "Yumans" instead of "Humans".

I don't have an accent. This is just how things sound when they're pronounced...properly.

I actually didn't get an entire episode of Even Stevens because they kept on saying "emoo" and I wondered what the heck it was. I finally keyed into the fact that they were horribly mispronouncing the word "emu" and the world made sense again.

I pronounce the word colour--with a silent u.

As for Iraq, I say it Ir-aq. So do most Brits. I-raq sounds wrong to me

As for colour- I actually say it slightly different to color- there's a hint of u in there
