Help Please .

My computer keeps making a ringing noise, I presume its a virus but by god my AVG free edition hasn't found it yet. Does anyone know what it is and where I can download a cure ? Please help. Thanks.

Is the ringing coming from the computer or the speakers?

A ringing sound could be a sign your power supply is going to die (if it's coming from the computer) and that can be fatal for everything in your computer, as it sends a large power surge as it dies. If it's coming from your speakers, then it's more likely to be either a soundcard problem, speaker problem or a virus. I've used it, and you're pretty much guarenteed to not have any form of malware left on your computer.

Its also possible that if you have a halogen lamp next to your speakers that you're hearing electric hum, and if you turn it off, it will go away. It happened to me for a month before I figured out it only happened while the lamp was on.

Our speakers start ringing when a Mobile phone gets close. But then again, our spekaers pick up Radio signals every once in a while too....

But if its coming from the computer itself it just like Seven of nine said, a heat problem. We have had that with old computers before.

It is coming from the computer, But when I turn the speakers up the ringing goes up. This is driving me mad, It stops then starts then waits then starts then stops and it is sooooooo annoying I am trying WindowsOneCare beta. Hopefully it will fix it I am currently running a tune up. Which checks all systems and scans for viruses.

It's coming from the computer, and it's worse with the speakers?

Could you try changing soundcards? Or if you're running on onboard borrow a pci soundcard from someone? It's an odd problem

Well this computer is deffinatly odd,
I have done some checking and the beeping only happens when my CPU usage is at 100% what I don't get though is on my task manager there is a ton of programs that I've never heard of and also there is no spyware after my scan, My virus scan is at 14% after about half an hour then the WindowsOneCare moves onto the next task, Can I just ask though how to I reduce my CPU usage it is at 100% and I have like 2 windows open, Thats it :@ :@.

well, unfortunantly those screens are unreadable.

But your CPU being at 100% all the time, wow. a normal CPU would get about 5% maximum when just Windows is running. 100% only occurs when a Game is running, your PC is Burning a Cd-rom etc.. Stuff like that.

The PC beeps when the CPU is at 100% because the CPU is to hot, the beeping is a warning for a possible overheat of your CPU.

In you task manager there must be 1 program that takes up the CPU 100%, shut that Program off and wite down the name of that program.

Perhaps place the name on this forum so we can find out what it is or Just Use search to find and delete the Executable(the .exe) manually(not adviseable as the Executable is probably part of a whole program, but it would probably stop it from running again and destroy your CPU)

A lot of the unknown programs are stuff Windows is running to keep things working, automatic programs and such. It's part of the OS.

As for the sound, I've heard of computers having little warning signs when they get too hot or they're seriously damaged. I could be making things up, but I'm 75% sure that's what I've heard.

It looks like about the...5th thing down on your task list is taking up the most CPU usage, along with the one highlighted.

Sorry if I'm being confusing. Bleepingcomputer.com may have some better answers.

yes computers do beep as a warning, i put new memory in mine recently and the computer started beeping, turned out i idident lock it in place

Hm well I am starting to get worried because when something goes wrong with a PC muggins here gets blamed,
I have been thinking and about my computer overheating that is very possible as it is kinda confinded against a wall so the air that the fan uses it may not be circulating properly (Is that correct ?) so I've moved it away from the wall slightly and I am gonna see if it helps things, Thanks for the help dudes, My CPU usage is shooting from 30 to the high 60 's. Running virus scan for all the good it seems to be doing.

I am gonna be moving the PC so it will be cooler and the overheating will hopefully stop. Thanks all, Let see what happens.

Very correct though, the backside of yuor PC needs to have space and be open(i suggest clean out the rosters if the intake(front) and outtake(back) of the ventilation. If its an old Computer)

Not a bad idea, is to take a make-up brush(of a paint brush, if you don't have any available), and open up you're computer and GENTLY dust it out, DO NOT touch any power or data transfer cords while doing this.
The CPU 100% Usage thing... That's more likely to be SPYWARE rather than a virus(Hence, ADG wouldn't find it), however If you look up either AD-AWARE or SPY BOT: Search& Destroy in Google/Yahoo/Msn search, you should be able to find a free edition of either of these two wonderful spy-nukers.
((You can cheat them, by clicking "Register Later" until it won't let you do it anymore, and then un-install it, re-new you're IP address, and re-download it... But I didn't tell you that. Someone else did. LOL))

You don't need to cheat them. They're free. AVG Free edition, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D...all free. Don't have to pay anything to register them. So much better than paying for it all.

OK, can you give me a fullsize screenshot of what's running? Even better, could you click on the CPU bar until the item that's using the most is at the top, then take the screenshot? I might be able to identify what should and shouldn't be there.

It's a long shot this one, but are you running any wireless networking software? Sometimes (especially Belkin) the software is a complete resource hog. I'd be able to tell if that's the case if I could see a fullsize screenshot.

If you don't know anything about computers you should nevrer open it up. Thats my advice.

Hey Seven I've checked again now and it seems to be running normally CPU usage is at 16 % I ran an antispyware scan and found something called involhost and it was deleted and its worked fine since . Thanks everyone .

hey Dan i take a computer repair course and sense your computer problem was fixed by everyone else i have one more bit of information for everyone:
Get Ewido just get the free version and use that found at : www.ewido.com

Go to www.castlecops.com
next on the left hand side find "startuplist" click there
ok heres where it gets tricky, click "start" then "Run" here type in "msconfig" now open the starup tab
check the names in the right column on the site, if it says that it shoulndt be runing, disable it.
