Does anyone use, or know anyone who uses Netflix? Where I live out in the country, it's definitely more cost effective to use something like this, than to drive 10 miles one way, rent a movie at $3.50, then drive it back.
I was just curious as to anyone's experiences.

I've never used it. But I do agree that it's wise for someone who lives out in the sticks . I usually use pay per view from Directv or we go get a movie, since we live close to town.

I did a trial, and only got one set, as the frist three movies i rented were never logged as returned untill Three days after my trial had expired. But It was cool, and the envelops they come in have a removeible sticker so that they are returnable in the same envelope. last i knew it was about 18 dollars a month, and you can get three at a time, and the faster you return them, the faster you get new ones.

I hadn't used Netflix yet. But, I plan to in the next few days cause I can't find anything on tv on this week.

Blockbuster has a similar/identical program, and I've been using it for a while now. Love it! I always forget to take back movies...this way there's no late charge for that. Also, it gives me an incentive to order movies. It's easier to do that than remember to go into a rental place all the time.

I used netflix for a few months. I actually was using blockbuster and netflix at the same time, and found that i liked netflix a 100 times better! Movies arrived sooner thru netflix, and i recieved less damaged discs from netflix as well. So having experienced both services at the same time, i much perfer netflix over blockbuster!! It's fabulous!

I use Netflix. It's not perfect, but it's pretty quick. They need tougher mailing sleeves, and they ought to work on weekends.

We have similar services here. Definitely more cost effective than it would be for me to travel to get a film, but we now just record from the telly onto the Sky + box we have

I went through about 9 movies during my trial period. They only come and go from Portland. And out where we live, this is proving to be a much better plan for us.

I gave in and got Screenselect (UK version). It did send out a film I'd wanted for ages first though, so I'm happy (and at �10 for 3 months I can't complain too much )

I use Lovefilm. I can't praise them enough. The service is very good and very quick, the website is easy to navigate, and they have almost every DVD in the UK, apart from a few niche products.

The website is the best part, though. You can search for films in so many ways. You can search via genre, actor, studio, etc. When you search, you can request that it not show results of titles you've previously rated. You can check the Editor's Choice, and so much more.

Being able to rent TV shows is a big plus, years ago you couldn't have done that. For me, the biggest plus is the "time shifting" factor, I can rent movies to watch when I want and not when some scheduler wants me to.

I suspected it too, although I haven't had a problem with Lovefilm. I can see why they would do it, though. It's not fair, but ANY company in the world thinks about profits, and maximizing those profits.

Meh, if you're getting pushed to the back of the line and not receiving the same service others are, yet paying the same price, that isn't really right. They should lower the price or something if you've been a member for a year or up, maybe?

Interesting point. When it comes to companies (not just rental firms), a lot of them go out of their way to entice new customers with special offers and treatment. This isn't bad in theory, but when it is to the detriment of loyal customers, then it's not fair.

Besides, as far as I know, video stores and online rental companies don't have to pay much for the discs anyway. Years ago, they used to have to pay quite a big amount for one videotape, which they could then rent out indefinitely. Nowadays, they get the DVDs for a very low price (maybe even free) and then they pay a percentage of their profits to the studio/distributor. If people are renting out a lot of DVDs each month, then it can only benefit companies like Netflix.
