PostMon Dec 26, 2005 10:31 pm    Crack Up - TOS Funny?

Does anybody else find themselves cracking up when they watch TOS? From the cornyness I mean. I was watching it with a friend today and we were cracking up. They had set up this "protective shield" around Spock's station on the bridge to protect everyone from this Medusan or something. And the shield was nothing more than a small piece of wall. And then the music cracks me up sometimes. I dunno, maybe we were just having too good of a time. But it was reeeeally funny.

Oh, I like TOS a lot actually. Sorry, maybe I came off like I didn't. It just seemed really funny.

Its almost impossible to put the show's style in context of the period, especially if you're like me and didn't even star watching TV until twenty years after TOS ended in 1969. But for the time, and for much of the 1970s when the show enjoyed greater popularity in syndication than it had during it's 3 season run on NBC the show was very relavent and entertaining, spawning the more contemporary Trek shows and 10 feature films. This entire franchise doesn't get off the ground if a lot of people don't find TOS to be a valuable and worth-while show.

I, sometimes catch myself laughing. I love laughing at the Tribbles episode.

TOS is always hilarious. Between the sets and the some of the Soap Opera-esque storylines...

A Piece of the Action -- Best Episode - Ever.

I wish they actually did come back sometime during TNG or maybe even DS9 (however unlikely) to check on the progress of the Sigma-Iotians, like Kirk said they would....just to revisit the situation and let Picard relive a live scenario of his Dixon Hill holodeck programs, or Bashir's secret agent theme.

Ok, honestly, I've barely watched TOS at all. The other day I flipped to an episode on G4 and was LMAO. The episode was Plato's Stepchildren. When I turned to it, there was a midget/dwarf (sorry, I'm not sure) that was riding Kirk (like a horse!)...and Kirk was bucking and neighing!!!!!!!!

What I have seen of the series makes me think that it is a great show, with a lot of funny scenes.

In response to JupiterPrime's comment, according to the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, the producers toyed around with the idea of sending Captain Sisko and crew to Sigma Iotia II for the 30th anniversary episode. However, that idea apparently didn't pan out, and the episode became "Trials and Tribble-ations" instead.

Actually, that was quite a groundbreaking ep, with Kirk kissing Uhura.

Yes it was the first inter-racial kiss on television.
