Folding@Home - http://folding.stanford.edu

What is this?
This is a chance for you to get your computer to work to help find cures for cancer, and other protein folding-related illnesses.

What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease?
Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.

Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

How can I help?
Download a piece of software (located here) and run it on your computer. This will make your computer part of one of the biggest supercomputers in the world! You can then choose an username that you can use for your computer (or computers, if you're so lucky!). When you open the software (I recommend the graphical client if your new to this) you will be asked if you want to be part of a team. I'm part of team number 43461. Join me in this team to help mankind!

Thank you,
Danni

that funny. NASA has a similar program called SETI@HOME. we are part of that, helping to scan the universe for Extra Terrestial Intelligence.

I'll join this too of course, both my computers.
